Watch a French TV program with many guests and Anglo-Saxons will consider it a total disaster because everyone's trying to get a word in at the same time but the French know how to navigate that kind of situation. As an outsider to the French culture you will find this kind of situation hilarious if not downright outrageous.
Oddly enough, last night I was reading about the relationship between French colonialists in Quebec in the 17th Century and the natives' perspective on the French. The Indians made the same observation about the French you do here, that they constantly interrupted and talked over each other and that seemed obnoxious to the Indians.
