Anyone who says that has never left America or never visited any non-Western countries. Go somewhere like Colombia, Ecuador or any east Asian countries. It is jarring when everyone around you looks like a child.
Lol. Well, as a multicultural kid who has lived in multiple countries and traveled to 5-6 dozen.... uh, okay? :D
Look, it's tall, yes. But not too tall to be a runner, and not so tall he looks like a "goof troop". 6'4" is good basketball height for HS and DII/III not really beyond that... it is solid football TE height.
6’4” is fine for D1 if you are a good point guard or shooter. It’s not giving you any advantages, but it is tall enough to play if you have good skills and athleticism. For example, 1/3 of UConn’s roster is 6’4” or less.
Please tell us what his time might have been if he'd been wearing 1950s-era running spikes. Guess what? It is 2025, not 2005, and the times in the future will generally be superior to the present. That's the way of the sport as human endurance and training and nutrition and shoe/spike technology and track surfaces/construction, etc., advance.
I picked distance runners because that is a longer way to carry a longer frame. Not as much of an issue for the mile down. Mottram is 6'2" but what about taller than that?Martii Vaino. (6'4")?Jack Bachelor. (6'7")?Peter Maher...
He is 6-4, so I guess above average height runs in the family.
6'4 so he must look like a goof troop. If you is 6'4 you need to be playing basketball not running.
Aargh! If only there were some way to measure whether a 6'4" person could be good at running. I mean, here we are, wondering if he should play basketball or not, based entirely on speculation about his height. real_kellen must be just riddled with anxiety about how this guy is misplaced in track and field.
Don't worry kellen, someday someone will come up with some sort of timing mechanism so we can fairly assess whether young Mr. Hedengren has made terrible choices and positioned himself as a "goof troop." Whatever that is.
Typical Letsrun message board derailment. The somewhat unheralded brother of a generational talent runs a fast mile, and instead of insights on his progression and previous achievements, most of the posts are "Gee whiz, he sure am tall!" and "That ain't tall, I'll show you tall!"
This past season as a soph his 8:30 steeple was 3rd at Big12 champs. He was ranked 10th in the NCAA going into the regionals where he was injured in the prelim. He has a shot at being an AA if he can stay healthy.

Original poster here. My thoughts exactly. I should have known better.
