your third string plays well -- purdy -- you run him right back out there.
he plays ok but you lose, judgment call.
he sucks and looks incompetent................you maybe go sign a street free agent. maybe he gets one more week.
i used to be a texans fan, and i remember during one "tank" period we went through a bunch of QBs who could manage maybe 150 yards on a good day. TJ Yates, for example.
to be fair, case keenum was one of them, 0-8 his first year here. but he netted positive on TD vs. INT. and on the right team he was decent.
if you have talent the question is a la mayfield do you eventually land someplace sanely run and decently stocked where you can reprove yourself. but if you run your mouth and do not produce first stop how many charitable second chances do you even get.
i mean, colin k could actually play and he basically got blackballed. if you rub people the wrong way and your current employer ceases to see the sports point, there may never be another stop. it's not a strict meritocracy, they have choices, they have to think you will behave and produce.
