I am an excepted federal employee. Working for no pay. I will have missed 17 days of pay as of Friday. People are freaking out, especially newer employees without much savings. Administration has sent info about loans, food banks, and ethics rules for second jobs. Some people have made arrangements with their lenders, billers, etc. Morale is low. People feel jaded and discuss how long they could go until they need to find a different job. This is going to cripple the federal civil service if it goes on long enough. We are talking going to the airport and whether your flight actually takes off being a coin flip, maybe your tax return is timely, maybe takes months. Maybe food stamps are available after you get paid off, maybe not.
This shutdown feels much different than other shutdowns because the parties are not negotiating much. Despite this, more people seem to be excepted than in previous shutdowns. Goal seems to be to make it as unpainful as possible for the general public. Ok I guess, if I was furloughed I'd probably spend money.
Most federal employees see the shutdown as the GOP's fault - you can see this on reddit but it's what's said at work too.
If most Federal employees are so dumb as to think the GOP is to blame then we don't want them.
you have already used DOGE in the winter/spring, and a previous shutdown threat. this is boring. this is just excuses to chop chop chop when you already want to chop anyway.
Why is The House and maga Mike Johnson and his son getting a paycheck when they are not going to work. Do your job. Bunch of Hand Models looking for a Hand 👌 job.
Johnson is working daily to reopen the government.
Democrats won't play ball.
Why is Schumer getting paid?
"working?" house isn't in session, dude.
you put your finger on one thing. in this climate it's time to pass a law where when these shutdowns happen, congress doesn't get paid any more than anyone else.
