What do you think about our world champs distance standards this year? No woman in the 5k/10k, no men in the marathon. Disappointing considering the talent should be there.
Coached by Jon Green, quite the stable of marathoners this guy is collecting,
Any relation to Jon Brown?
No. We assume you're trolling.
Jon Brown, former 3:40.53/7:45/13:19/27:18/1:01:49/2:09:31 British cross country monster migrated to Vancouver, Canada, becoming a citizen. His best years -around 1997-2005
Twice 4th in OG marathon, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004. 2:09:31 best. Monster, not really appreciated by British public.
Super efficient stride. Quiet introvert was Jon. Hardly a word from his mouth.

Yeah, massive gaping hole on the womens side.
But these things are cyclical, about 5 years ago it looked like we'd have 5 or 6 Women battling it out at 800m and nothing there
Marathon is funny becuase between Curtin, Lynch, Hiko and soon enough you'd imagine Giday its in the best health we've seen for years. But these 4 will be the right age for LA..
Good podcast here with McEllhenny's coach Emmet Dunleavy. They have Mark Keneally now as head of endurance and are running 3 camps a year with about 30 athletes up in Font Romeau with all the supports for S&C, Dietitian, Physio etc. In a high volume high intensity programme. They've been quiet about it but that will pay off.
Keneally is a serious operator, he was an olympic marathoner in 2012 and since then has been working with LOI clubs to set up academy's, has worked directly for St Pats also with the Scarlets and Leinster Rugby so has a nice CV
Treacy a known heel striker and would have ran who knows what in the shoes which really help heel strikers.
Curtin is cracked.. ran that marathon solo and with a 3.25 first km. Not a flat course but fairly quick second half. Seems a mad choice doing Singapore next but maybe he's practicing for the hot ones like LA!
I think he is practicing earning $50,000 winner checks.

Absolutely, he's not going there to run fast. Pragmatics, money.
Fun factoid, Ireland is the most expensive country in Europe for rental and properties. Ridiculous greed from developers. When I lived in Dublin/Ballinteer, 1956-1975, it was almost 3rd world prices.
2024 result: Looks like a slow course, or hot inclement conditions. Kenyan winner, 2:16, Pfeiffer (German 2:08 monster) 2:21.
Suffer, and grab the money.
I'm concerned Curtin will not be fully recovered, so it's a risk, but good luck to him. Runners have around a 10 year window to make money. He's seizing that opportunity.
Caveat, Fearghal should not give up track, imho, before hitting sub 13:20/28:00. Everything is related.
When Moen 13:20/27:20 Norge monster with Premier League thighs (2:05:40, Fukuoka 2017) had to give up track (tendon issues) he was never the same.
Might as well assume doping like everyone else who in their late 20s has a massive improvement….
Or you go being a 28:00/2:08 isn’t crazy fast these days. Still an outstanding performance but it is at the level where you might not know the guys name before hand…
To be honest, that's exactly what I thought.
Martin Fagan or 2:08 is the old 2:10. It's not fair that Martin Fagan has cast a shadow of doubt over this result but that's the reality (By the way, is the assummption now that Fagan was doping in college? He was damn good in college)
He's got all the tools to run 2:05:00 at some point in the future within the next five years I think. If things go right I think he's a solid bet to represent Ireland in the marathon in Los Angeles 2028.
What? How is that your conclusion? Why would we think an NCAA also ran would keep improving and equal the exploits of Mantz - a two-time NCAA champ - who is the fastest white guy in history?
I think it's much much more likely that 2:07:54 ends up being his lifetime pb than he ever run 2:05:00.

LA 2028? Yes. 2:05:00? Big no.
What a trash take. The only crossover Fagan and Curtin have are their nationality and their sport.
They are from different parts of the country..They never had a coaching overlap.
Could Curtin be doping. Sure, In the same way every pro athlete could be.
Would you say that Josette Andrews us doping because of Shelby?
Would you say that Lyles is doping because of Moe Greene or Tim Montgomery?
Would you say that as a coach Rojo experimented on his athletes with topical Testerone because salazar did?
Each of the above overlap in nationality and event/role.
If you think Curtin is a doper put up your arguments and we'll listen.
But Martin Fagan was a busted flush, permanently injured at the end of his career. I don't buy his line that doping was a cry for help but casually linking him to Curtin is so wrong minded It's not funny.

I agree that it’s not likely that Curtin will become a 2:05 guy. But it’s also not unheard of for an NCAA also-ran to become a great marathoner. Richtman was an NCAA also ran. Going back a few years, Frank Shorter’s best finish at NCAA XC was 19th (though he did win a 10k title on the track). Bill Rodgers was not even an NCAA also ran. Dakota Lindwurm/Popehn was a total unknown until Orlando. Middle-tier college runners become great marathoners all the time. The hard part is knowing which also rans will pop!
