Like of ALL the sports in the Olympics you could make a case on that have for example, a judging system where you could make some kind of rational case that a female gymnast, or diver can has an advantage because of some feminine attribute that pertains to an arbitrary opinion based score, she gives the one freaking sport where not a single womens Olympic champion could win a title at the California State High School Boys championships.
It really is impressive that she managed to pick one of the closest to truly physical sports there is. There is obviously technique to running, but 99.9% is just strength/endurance.
She really could not have picked a worse sport. Women still would not have a chance in Weightlifting/Wrestling/Boxing, but those do at least have weight classes to put them on a slightly more level playing field, and technique is more important than strength in Wrestling/Boxing so an incredibly skilled girl could beat some brute of a guy (we've seen incredibly rare cases of women winning state titles in lower wrestling weight classes which is pretty awesome).
Track is like the one sport where no matter how hard you squint, or how perfect of a scenario you can dream up (short of everyone else getting injured/false starting) the girl is not going to be competitive...
Exactly, that's why that moment was so tragic/funny.
Every sport sits on this spectrum of skill/technique at one end, through to pure physical acumen/ability at the other. Take soccer, yes you need a high level of physical ability, but you could also make up for relative shortcomings with a high level of skill. Even in sports like wrestling, skill and technique can make up a lot of ground on just brute strength, power and endurance. Track and Field is on the complete other end of that spectrum and even more obviously so track. Sure there is running "technique" but that has to be really bad to actively detract from ones physical ability. No implement other than a pair of spiked shoes, physical ability is paramount.
The cherry on the sundae was the "short track" comment referring to sprints, because I think that even though women appear closest (the are quantifiably I guess) to the men, the 100m is one event where from the moment the gun goes, women have zero chance. In an 800m we've seen a few championship races over the years go out in 54 - the top woman could at least stick with that for the first lap. Same in a 1500m - Kipyegon, Tsegay could go out in 1.58 looking competent before being obliterated in the final 600m. But in a 100m it's over after what, 5, 10% of the race?
One thing I've picked up on that I think is the case, I don't think these people (like Yee), understand that the Olympics are not about participation because if they were, anybody could just enter in them and we know why this doesn't work. I think that this is by far the biggest misconception/lack of education. I have this funny feeling that they think the Olympics are an open event like a major marathon is. Fill in your entry form, pay your entry fee with a basic level of ability and hope you get in. The people they see out jogging at lunchtimes run in the Olympics don't they? Her narrative was "participation rights for all" - but again, the Olympics aren't about participation rights for all and those rights start with physical ability before we even get to biology.
You are correct. These people believe it. The "party of science", the one that so often looks down upon religion, doesn't understand basic biology. I've often thought democrats operate based on how they wish or hoped the world was.
But I'm writing to vehemently disagree with the part I bolded. I don't think MAGA poisoned the discussion at all. Far from it. It was the other way around. The left VIOLENTLY went after anyone who didn't agree with them. JK Rowling was ATTACKED, called a bigot, boycotted, etc. The swimmers at Penn were told to seek counseling if they didnt want to share a locker room with a male. They were forbidden from talking to the press.
People were FORCED to act like they believed this stuff. Do you remember when everyone in DC added he/him or sher/her to the email signatures?
.I personally lost 5 figures of broadcasting gigs for simply writing a column saying gender had no business being in sport with Mara Yamauchi.
This is problematic thinking. The discussion about trans individuals competing in sports should be an entire different topic. Obviously more testosterone is an advantage. However, MAGA has poisoned the discussion on trans individuals overall. How does adding pronouns to email signatures affect you in any real way?—It doesn’t. The bathroom issue is ridiculous, it’s a bathroom. Trans people are not molesting kids in bathrooms. Pedophiles are an entire different subset. MAGA politicians have gone as far as to say they want to eliminate trans ideology from society. This is incredibly discriminatory and evil. We’re talking about people here! 99.9% of trans people don’t take part in competitive sports. They’re just trying to live their lives how they choose to.
Constantly pushing the discussion and demonizing the ridiculously minuscule percentage of trans people that compete in sport and extrapolating that to discriminate against an entire subset of people is pretty demonic.
How do pronouns affect others? One way is that it is trying to force people to affirm things that are not true, such as a man telling people to refer to him as she/her, or they/them, or any of the completely made up pronouns. If a man wants to pretend to be a woman that is their right, but they do not the right to forces others to say they are a woman or refer to them as anything other than a man.
As far as bathrooms, as a woman I do not want to be in a public bathroom or locker room with a man, regardless if he pretends to be a woman. It is a basic privacy issue. For you to say it's ridiculous tells me you are most likely a man.
You comment about a "ridiculously miniscule percentage of trans people that compete is sports" also tells me that you must be a man. It doesn't matter how large or small the number is. Men do not belong in women's sports. They have biological and physiological advantages. Just because a man pretends to be a woman, they are still a man, no matter how many hormones they take or surgeries they have. They are not being discriminated against. They are welcome to complete in sports - men's sports - they have no right to compete with women.
Even the liberal Senator from Hawaii admits men have physiological differences over women, when it suits her narrative: "One question I had is that you are now requiring applicants to be able to do a certain kind of pull-ups, which a lot of women cannot because of physiological differences. Are you requiring these kinds of pull-ups?" Hirono asked.
Sen. Mazie Hirono clashed with FBI Director Kash Patel in a tense hearing as she called pull-up rules harsh, and Patel shot back that agents must meet the standard.
You are correct. These people believe it. The "party of science", the one that so often looks down upon religion, doesn't understand basic biology. I've often thought democrats operate based on how they wish or hoped the world was.
People who claim on this issue that the other side doesn’t understand biology don’t seem to understand the difference between science and a belief about how a society ought to conduct itself, aka politics. They also really don’t seem to be able to understand the difference between an empirically testable hypothesis and a definition.
I am a liberal and also a former d1 distance runner, which can make this an uncomfortable discussion subject with my other liberal friends. i promise you it's not show. I've come to believe most just really don't understand athletics and/or that it's not just recreational. but honestly, maga has so poisoned the discussion with their attacks on trans people, that it's hard to have any sort of nuanced opinion on this stuff. hence the interview clip.

Rojo, why is it that every crazy person that does something or says something has to be representative of the "left" as a whole? I assure you there are very few people on the left who agree with what this candidate for governor said or that agree with physically attacking JK Rowling. Yet, you try to hold the entire left accountable for it as if it's some monolithic thing where everyone holds the exact same views and opinions. Your headline on the homepage says "Can't spell crazy without CA" which is something straight out of the New York Post as if this one candidate for governor (who has no chance of winning, btw) not being educated on gender disparities in Olympic sports somehow makes her crazy. I happen to generally agree with you on this stuff but it's becoming more and more obvious that you have a partisan axe to grind rather than actually caring about protecting women's sports. If you did, you would acknowledge that this is a wedge culture war issue that is not worthy of the attention it's gotten in recent years and certainly not consequential enough to hand the keys to the kingdom to Donald Trump over it (who, by the way, I have never heard you try to hold accountable for anything, ever).

Are you talking about yourself as a registered Democrat now?
Some people say there should be an open category. Transgenders don't want that. They know they have an unfair advantage competing against men. This "transgender" admits it:
Trans Researcher Says Quiet Part Out Loud About Male Athletes In Women's Sports | OutKick
At a recent international sports governance conference in Finland, one speaker inadvertently highlighted the sheer entitlement of males who are fighting to compete in women's sports.
The viral moment came during the "Who Has the Right to Compete?" panel at the Play the Game 2025 conference in Tampere, where five speakers — including researcher Joanna Harper, a trans-identifying male — debated the inclusion of transgender athletes in sex-based sports categories. Some people say there should be an open category. Transgenders don't want that.
"The open category will be 99% cisgender male," Harper argued. "And so what you are asking is for trans women to compete in a category which is virtually entirely cis men, and just call it an open category.
"Most trans women, myself included, would rather quit their sport than to compete in such a category."
Believable to me rojo, not that women could beat men in the 100 but that a candidate running for governor in Fantasyland said it. california is cooked.
Real question: this lady is dumb sure but what loser flyover state do you live that contributes more to this country than California? The bottomed out meth-crusted middle of this country should thank their lucky Garth Brooks cassette singles that they're still in the union.
Texas is the new California. Don't expect California to stay at top. Instead, you should expect other states--led by Texas--to recreate its most successful institutions and shamelessly poach its best talent.

funny you would think that as the LEFT does exactly that
Typical Democrat nut job. The worst are the liberal women. California Gov. Gavin Newscum is spending $100 million right now to study if trans "females" in biological female sports have an advantage. This is after he spent $125 million on his all-black "California Slave Reparations Committe" from 2020-2024 when California never had black slaves, it was prohibited from the get- go in the 1850 California State Constitution. California never grew cotton or tobacco either in the 1800s.
Horrible things? Oh you mean THE TRUTH? Look at ALL crime statistics in California, New York, Utah. Look at cheaters NCAA swimmer Lia Thomas and CA HS student AB Hernandez?
Open category? So all 10 unstable biologycal men, and Biological female full of testosterone Nikki Hiltz, can gave their own "special" category. Ridiculous. There is no such thing as non-binary or "they."
