Floyd and Wells met a couple of times after the Olympics each winning one race as I recall. It's not like Wells couldn't be Floyd. Hard to say who would have won in the Olympic 100
American Stanley Floyd number one ranked at 100m despite no Olympics, Wells at number two.
Even funnier is the fact that after Wells beat the favorite (Cuba’s Silvio Leonard) in Moscow, he had a showdown two weeks later with the top Americans. Wells beat Stanley Floyd, Mel Lattany, Carl Lewis, and Harvey Glance. After the race Lattany said that Wells would have still won in Moscow if the Americans had been there. Obviously no one could ever really know what would have happened, but we do know Enzio left this tidbit out, and TaFNews was never going to rank some “white dude” ahead of their faves. Even in those days they were known as very PC before it was called PC when it came to that. 🤣😝😛 Wells could have run 9.6 and he still wouldn’t have ranked #1.
On a side note, in ‘81 (in Berlin) Wells beat Mel Lattany, Jeff Phillips, Stanley Floyd, Steve Williams, and Ben Johnson over the 100 and 200. But Enzio conveniently leaves this out. Wells also defeated Carl Lewis at the World Cup in the 100 (Lattany did beat him in the 200), but this time Wells ranked #1 in the 100 for 1981 after all the complaints about TaFNews and their inconsistencies so to speak the prior year. Sure, he wasn’t the best ever, but he did win consistently over guys Enzio drools over, especially in ‘81.
Wells beat Floyd right after the Olympics in 1980 to validate the gold medal.
To settle questions about the validity of his Olympic gold with the American boycott, "Wells accepted an invitation to take on the best USA sprinters of the day, among others, the ASV Weltklasse track meeting in Cologne in West Germany. Less than two weeks after the Moscow gold, he won the final in Koblenz in a time of 10.19s, beating Americans Stanley Floyd (10.21), Mel Lattany (10.25), Carl Lewis (10.30) and Harvey Glance (10.31).[2][6] Lattany went straight over to Wells after crossing the line to say, "For what it's worth, Allan, You're the Olympic champion and you would have been Olympic champion no matter who you ran against in Moscow."[2]"
In 1980 Wells ran his PR 10,11 he never broke 10.10,
Floyd ran a 10,07 in 80 he had a 10.03 PR, broke 10.10 a few times.
In 80 20ish sprinters ran faster than 10.11.
Winning a one and done on the circuit can't be compared to a championship meet where rounds are contested.
You will rationalize to no end to defend, well in your mind, the BBC. Wells had a couple of seasons with excellent head to head results against everyone. The athletes can only run in the meets provided, they can’t control that. Wells never ducked anyone. But Carl Lewis sure did, more than once.
He got our attention running the 100m but like most white sprinters the 200m would end up his best event.
I noticed that long ago, not that every sprinter runs both events but if a white sprinters does he will be more accomplished in the 200m.
Proof
lane
1.Kenteris Olympic gold
2.Guliyev World Champ
3.Boling NCAA Indoor champ
4.Mel Patton Olympic gold 1948
5.Hal Davis best in the world early 40's (no Olympics)
6.Pietro Mennea Olympic champ/WR
7.Larry Questad 68 Olympian USA
8.Mark Lutz 76 Olympian USA
9.LeMaitre......like Boling, got our attention in the 100m, but his best event..............
We won't see that level of success in the 100m for white sprinters.
Percy Williams, Valery Borzov, Bobby Morrow won both at the Olympics.
Thank you for the post. Original Posters or OPs always get ripped on here. I think some of these idiots would say anything at any time no matter how stupid their remark might be.

It is debatable whether Floyd would have beaten the eventual champion Allan Wells at the Olympics. He had the faster time for the year and in post-Olympic meetings he beat Wells by 2 to 1.
Floyd ran a few sub10,10, while Wells PR was 10.11
Well was also taking steroids but here it is just a question of whether he would have won gold without a boycott. The times don't matter that much when the guy wasn't even used to blocks.
