Is there some kind of time bonus or handicap system in place I'm not aware of that incorporates your PB into world championship results? Is there a GST point system at work here?
Hocker probably ate a bunch of bicarb before that 5000. Noone else did because they think it's for the 800. But why wouldn't it give you an invincible kick in a 5000?

When someone looks ordinary in a Diamond League race, then weeks later is closing like a prime Lagat and Bekele, it’s fair to ask questions. That’s not “moaning,” that’s recognizing how suspicious outlier performances can be in this sport, especially with its history.

For any doubters, here is Cole Hocker at 19/20 five and a half years ago in 2021 closing out a double NCAA mile-3k double within an hour, with a last 200m of 25.x and a last 100m in the low 12s to catch Cooper Teare, already a 3:50 miler at the time, who had gotten the jump on him on the last lap with Mario Garcia Romo (soon to run 3:30) between them. The kick was always there when he was fit.
He didn't seem to need recovery because he wasn't challenged, and he wasn't challenged because there were no in-shape elite 1500m runners in the field who could kick with him.
