Some one will have to explain why none of our open 400m qualifiers were in this race. You almost have to cheer against them until there is an organizational change in mentality.
The answer is that the coach wanted to save their legs for the 4x400 finals because Botswana was gonna be brutal.
That is of course, a stupid answer. Two guys didn't even make the final. They train to run rounds. This is nothing new for them.
I’m sorry, but this is an unacceptable result. They will blame the changeover, when the root of the problem is who actually was chosen to run. Let me be clear, I have no problem with Bailey running… Even though he did not look great in qualifying, he earned the right to be there and has been a steady hand. It appeared to me he did a pretty good job. McIver and deadman, they competed admirably in the mixed relay, so if you were going to run some alternates they showed fitness just several days past. The second leg, though, I’m sorry, but he should not have been on the track. When you have guys like Vernon Norwood and Khaleb McRae sitting at the house fresh, why would you even run the dude that was seventh at trials. He did not earn his way, and he obviously was not ready. Forget the changeover, if you ran Vernon Norwood on second leg, you do not have that problem because you have a clean line. This is poor management and poor decision-making. Funny thing is the dude that ran 2nd is coached by one of the USA relay coaches… so we have politics and personal bias playing into decisions that should be made for the better of the team and the USA. Get these professional clowns who are attached to agents and shoe companies out and get somebody in there who understands relay coaching and does not play favorites. Vince Anderson, please come save us. The same clowns almost blew it at the Olympics when Vernon Norwood had to go save team USA after Quincy dropped a 47 split, and they ran him knowing he was injured. Before that, they knowingly left quality alternates at home. There’s no excuse for this and they should be held accountable.
the second leg is SO IMPORTANT to ensure a clean exchange on the 2nd handoff. Great post!!
The whole point of firing a very successful relay coach was supposedly to prepare team usa for a higher level in prep for LA 28. That lady had an incredible record of success choosing the right people at the right time for the right reasons and her record proved it. The politically appointed dingus in charge now will make excuses and blame everyone else and yet we are not even in a final let alone medaling. People who dont have a record of winning should never replace those who do for any reason if winning is important. I guess they just wanted to lose.
They shouldn't get another chance, the incoming US athlete was 4th at the 200m point so the outgoing runner should have been outside the Zambia athlete

Yup. But I knew something like this would happen to the pampered US. Surprised they weren't simply put into the final.
The US ran very poorly in their heat. Why is everyone on the US team running in lane 2 on the turn? Looked like a "B" team running. Oh, and lose the shades. It's a night meet. You ain't that cool.
The overall results of nonqualifying teams is: 7th Japan, 10th Kenya, 11th China, 12th US, 13th France
This looks fishy to me. We lost fair and square and do not deserve a rerun. Even if they give rerun, the last q time was 2:59.70 and the Us should be required to beat that in order to get a spot. Heck, if they are rerunning the race, put all 5 teams on the track for one spot.
When is this rerun scheduled to happen? The final is in only about 21 hours.
bad relay order might lead to bad handoffs. Same deal as Paris 4x100.
Paris 4x100 happened because nobody told Kenny B that a 3-point stance for leg 2 was stupid. How do these guys get so far in the sport without having basic understanding of the events?
I am told the US and Kenya will race for the 9th spot in the 4x4 final
Is this for real? They don't deserve another shot. Traffic during exchanges is just part of the 4x4. You can't blame the exchange, it was just poor running.
They were interfered with. So reinstated. Hopefully putting Rae Benjamin in will help.!?! It's true that those young guys did not do well and were a poor choice to run the prelim and did not run smart!
You are wrong. Stupid decisions like putting Coleman first shows US relay coaches don’t understand the relay. Also, you don’t need your fastest guy last - except for their ego. They should be able to have Lyles run 115 m and have the leadoff guy run 90 if the knew what they were doing and placed Lyles 2nd. Coleman should not be on the A team. He finished 5th at trials. They each run approximately 100m, so his good start shouldn’t put him on the team if 4 guys are faster than him over 100. Just basic stuff like that.

I assume they have to run the same team members. Shouldn't be able to rerun and add faster runners because you were too stupid to do it the first time around.

No you are wrong. National teams always put in the B teams in the Semis, saving their best for the final. All 8 runners get awarded a medal. Just basic stuff like that.

As been stated, the re-run has to 1) use the same runners, 2) in the same order, 3) in the same lanes. Completely fair.
