Some serious 20:20 hindsight being applied here. He came back with a 3:45 mile at Pre last year after a similar period of time out with a very similar injury. It was not fantasy to think if he turned up to race he could medal.
However, recent interviews about the injury have not been encouraging and his team told him to not to go, but it's all guesswork for us as we only see media reports.
I think he was just desperate to compete and must have known he wasn't ready.
As for those of you talking about the down votes, the voting system on these boards are absolute crap. Everyone just upvotes what they like to see and it doesn't reflect reality.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly, but it was unlike Pre where he had a bad injury but then nearly 3 months of good training. This time it sounds like his training was littered with setbacks and it was until the last month he had any real momentum. As soon as I saw his remarks about maybe not running the 1500, I began to think making the final was a stretch.

Yeah I think reality set in for him once he got to Japan and realized he didn't feel like he usually does.
Hey he put it on the line and was clearly far far from race shape… but he showed up.
That's not what everyone was telling me for the last month. They kept telling me how he could easily run and win the Diamond League final, and beat Kerr and Hocker at Worlds who suck. Now it's "at least he showed up"?
Don't blame jogger fan ignorance on ingerbritsen.
You guys make your prognosticatiins then push your hate off on the athlete.
Earlier he admitted he would be a long shot. What I like about him is he goes for it! His motivation is competing. He takes the risk instead of ducking competition.
If he's in no shape to race the 1500m, he's in no shape to race the 5000m. His being one of the best 1500m runners in the world was why he was so dominant in the 5000m in previous years.

I guess that's one way of celebrating his coming 8th.
Both me and the King of Physics, basically all the Physics geniuses already portended a few days ago that Jakob's recent 2-3 training and interview videos on youtube disclosed a man in severe distress hidden behind coping smiles, coping jokes and coping gestures.
WE READ JAKOB ON POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUBJECTIVELY TO BOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coping smiles, coping jokes and gestures ARE NON-OBJECTIVE EVIDENCES but yet we somehow overcame this supposedly huge barrier and went straight in and saw Jakob's heart, mind, soul and spirit you feelin me folks????????
In the interest of justice and equity, I Khamis the RF king demand an apology from all LRC bad boys for persecuting both my person and my skills and replacing it with unhinged descriptors are 'schizo', 'lunatic', 'permanently banned', 'inane', 'nutcase' and so on and so forth!!!!!!!!!!!
Look now me and King of Physics, both Physics geniuses have ironically been proven right and justice has been served on these actual lunatics and schizos of LRC who being untrained in physics and psychoanalytics (physics too!!!) still liked themselves much smarter than us LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
I expect to see multiple apologies to this post and its attendant subscription to my channel here on LRC thank you folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spot on darling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very very very well said!!!!!!!! Many of the LRC bad boys on here who being very unhinged will still insist to the opposite that Jakob does not need to rely on 1500m expertise to still win the 5000m. They are trying very hard to RUN AWAY FROM THE COLD HARD TRUTH AND BE IN DENIAL in the face of adversity faced by Jakob precisely because they are blinded by their unhinged affection for Jakob you feelin me?????
These are the same dudes who persecute and throw shade at Daddy Gjert for physically whacking Jakob into shape for Tokyo 2021 1500m gold. These dudes have low morals, are far leftists and democrats, are mostly Americans and for the record and this is the most important factor have not attained any super high level of Physics mastery. They are simple minded, they wake up, eat, work and go to sleep. They have no idea life is a trillion times more complex than that!!!!!!!

You are one crazy azz sir!!!!!!!!!! If this is how you run your life I don't want anything to do with you, stay far away from me then!!!!!!!! There is fine line between foolhardiness and intelligence!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jakob isn't one of the most intelligent guys around athletics. If he were that intelligent there wouldn't have been the fall out between him and Daddy Gjert.

Apparently he reinjured his Achilles end of August again around the time he canceled on Brussels and Silesia. He pushed too hard between July and mid August and paid the price, I told you so right Noah???? You folks should have listened to my instruction, my wisdom, my foresight, my benevolence and my altruism for this sport but all I get is snide remarks like 'schizo', 'lunatic', 'ban him permanently', 'nut case', 'sigh' when everybody knows the reason I'm not banned permanently on LRC is PRECISELY BECAUSE I SINGLEHANDEDLY TRANSFORMED LRC AND CONTRIBUTED THE BEST AND MOST ADVANCED WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE TO THIS SPORT and all its athletes!!!!!!!!!
Even Dr Canova finds much benefit in all my posts and comments!!!!!!

Correct correct correct sir!!!!! Strand was flailing arms just to still have my darling Kerr who was in turn looking very comfortable still gap him in the last 50m.
I don't know why Strand would travel all the way to Hawaii for training camp is he out of his mind??????? He should have had the training camp in Tokyo instead like what Kerr and Jakob did!!!!!!!!!!!! All these American athletes simply making way too dumb decisions about their itinerary kinda reminds me of Fisher's own dubious itinerary to take an aeroplane 1-1.5hrs away to an altitude destination right in the middle of a championship!!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kerr will repeat in my opinion, then Laros in silver, these 2 positions I'm pretty locked in alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laros is too young and inexperienced and will never get the better of Kerr tactically. The way Kerr jogged in in heat 1 of the 1500m expressionless like Beatrice Chebet in the 10k while Strand was gritting his teeth and grimacing in pain just touches a chord in my heart and hearts to mean that he will REPEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few days ago I made a post about "JOSH MF KERR WINS TOKYO 1500m" and it got deleted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm telling the future with my prescient set of eyes and I get such disrespectful treatment by the mods?????????????????????

And the way some here always sing Jakob from morning to evening. Who's laughing now? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣The same way he'll see dust in 5000M. He should just pack his bags and go back to Norway.
It's comical how much of an idiot you are. Hmmm..."sing Jakob from morning to evening. Who's laughing now?". What are you saying? He's a world record holder, world champ, and Olympic champ. Who wouldn't celebrate and "sing" these accomplishments? What kind of track fan (you're not) or any athletics fan in any sport "celebrates" someone's failure? Not only are you celebrating someone's failure, but the reason for their failure was unavoidable and bad luck. I know you're not capable of comprehending this, but how about celebrating the other athlete's who qualified? I know that's tough for a moron to absorb and the reason why you're sitting at home "celebrating" peoples failures, clear sign of NO SELF ESTEEM or SELF WORTH.
Good Luck to those who qualified and I'm looking forward to a great final, and a speedy recover to Jakob.
