People absolutely loved Mo Farah in his prime. There would be huge crowds of non runners who would go to see him race. Kipchoge would have to be up there too. Live in Sydney and the amount of cheering he alone got compared to all the other athletes was insane. During the race you could see tons of the runners themselves cheering him on when he was doubling back past them on some of the out and back parts of the course. He alone has contributed to a new running craze for every day people.

A victim of a WW1 mustard gas attack and always Zatopek's shadow in European and Olympic championship races he entered the marathon on the final day of the Games. His federation said he was crazy. He insisted.
Under 100° skies, wearing #13 on his bib, on the day his daughter, Olympia, was born, he became the SUN winning his first gold medal and finally defeating Zazopek who saluted him and said that it meant all the gold in the world to see his friend Alain win.

When I saw the title of this thread, two names came immediately to my mind: Emil Zatopek and Alain Mimoun. I believe both were incredibly nice persons on the track and in normal life.
