First, nobody should be celebrating. The sport is way more interesting when Jakob races, win, lose or draw. This season has lost a little of its luster because he's been out so far. Second, kudos for him to be willing to try even if he's not 100%. Nobody can ever say he doesn't love to compete. Third, he's such a phenomenal talent, if he's out there, he just might pull it off. I just love seeing how the others react to him. Some may think they can beat him, and they have, but he commands such enormous respect and he dictates the terms of the race, even in defeat.
This post was edited 5 minutes after it was posted.
For the sake of Kerr, Laros and Hocker, he better not beat them. What an embarrasment that would be for those guys. Beaten by a runner not racing outdoors at all this season.
Prior to his injury, in his last 3 competitions this year, he:
1. Broke the WR in the mile and 1500 (same race).
2. Won a European championship 1500.
3. Won a world championship 1500.
Would you have the same advice for Niel Gourley or Isaac Nader?
The indoor WR in the mile was held by Kejelcha (a 5000 / 10000 guy who also had the half-marathon WR) for a while before Naguse and then Ingebrigtsen broke it. So some good 5000 runners can run very fast 1500s in a time trial setting. And citing Ingebrigtsen’s indoor wins against limited competition is of limited value. He didn’t even medal in the 1500 in the Olympics.
I don’t think there is any debate that he is better at the 5000 than the 1500 in championship races. Gourley or Nader would be thrilled to get one gold medal, but Ingebrigtsen wants two medals per championship (he really wants two gold medals). So while he does identify himself as a 1500 runner, and he is a great 1500 runner, it is perfectly rational to consider whether the 5/10 might be a better route for him to achieve that two gold medal goal.
It is also rational to stick to winning DL 1500s and WC 5000s. It should be about his priorities and what he prefers.
This is a reasonable take. Not sure why you are being downvoted. Mo Farah showed that with great miler speed you can be unbeatable in the 5000/10000. Ingebrigtsen has shown that he is far better in the 3000/5000 than the 1500. That may extend to the 10000 in terms of championships.

It's a semi-reasonable take, but my point was that if guys like Gourley and Nader (extend that list to Tim C, Kessler, Nielsen and many more) are not being told to quit the 1500, there is absolutely no reason Jakob should abandon it. Yes, he's very vulnerable in 1500 championship races. Yes, he has more accolades in 5000 championship races. Yes, his most impressive PB/WR is the 3000. All of these do not contradict that he still has a good shot in the 1500 (maybe not this year), certainly better than the aforementioned guys, and probably on par with guys like Kerr and Hocker (certainly with someone like Nuguse).
Also, we really don't know how he'd fair in the 10000 and he's still racing the 5000, so I don't really think this take is very good.
Oh and one more thing. These types of takes have been posted here a lot over the last couple of years, and moreso recently. It reminds me of how people speculated he would race the steeple or the 10000 after he mentioned his WC debut in 2017 in the SC. He hasn't qualified for neither events. Obviously, now, the lists are closed. So these takes are pointless. Come 2027, feel free to bring it up again if Jakob fails to win another 1500 race in the next 2 years.
If his legacy ends up depending on the 3k/5k, he had better start going after that 5000m world record to add to the 2k/3k/2M wr's and all the 5000m golds.
I still think he can get the 1500 and mile wr's next year, if healthy, but there is a passel of other candidates for it now that 31 yr guys with 3:29 pr's and Kenyan neophytes are running 3:27.
He should accept he is a 3k/5k/10k guy and not a championship miler. Just won't let go of the dream becasue it's his identity. No matter how many times he gets outkicked.
I've criticized Jakob's championship 1500 tactics plenty of times, but posts like these are just silly. Jakob really is on another level than the rest of the field if 2 silvers and a 4th place finish in the last 3 outdoor 1500 finals are catastrophic failures and reason to leave the event forever.
I would love to see him go for the 5000 and 1500 WRs. He most likely would have gone for at least one of them, if not both, this outdoors season, had he been healthy.
With that said, only he controls his schedule and legacy, not LR takes.

Maybe he should just accept that he is a 3: guy...
Then vaguely in support of your comment, with the nest WORLDS 2 yrs awy, and the next OLYS in 2028, this might be or have been the last yeat when he seriously focuses on the 1500/mile ve the 3/5/(?)10...
And with that kick, Laros has zero global medals still.
If Laros wins gold this year, he'll be younger than Jakob was when Jakob won his first (and only 1500) gold in 2021.
Laros turned 20 in April.
Sorry Robert but Laros will only get silver at best trust me on that my dear!!!!!!!!!! Kerr is the master of peaking and though he be a little too old this year I'm giving him 1 final chance to get 1 final gold medal of his career and that's it, that's the end of him this year. We already saw the end of Nuguse this year, the end of Fisher as well, soon to be for Hocker, I would be surprised Kerr continues at a high level for another 1-2 years. With the amount of RF pollution in the air probably not!!!!!
In a daze before the start of the World Cup: - A hope until it really doesn't work
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has no idea if he will run the 1500 meters in the World Championships on Sunday. He opens up to NRK about the uncertainty that has characterized him.
- I have worked hard and long to try to make this happen. That belief exists until I stand at the start – or not, says Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Ingebrigtsen is in a good mood when he takes NRK to one of the many temples that characterize the Japanese city of Kyoto, where he has held his last training camp before the World Cup.
- There are historical buildings and temples here, almost on every corner. It's cool how it's such a big part of Japanese culture.
Tourists flock to the traditional city with the goal of experiencing authentic Japanese culture.
Despite the fact that the Norwegian runner also appreciates the historical aspect, he is really here with only one goal in mind: Getting ready for the World Championships in Tokyo, which start this weekend.
The Sandnes runner has been out with an Achilles injury since March, and the World Championships will therefore be Ingebrigtsen's first outdoor competition this year - if he makes it.
Because it is still uncertain whether he will compete in the 1500 meter attempt on Sunday night.
– I have hope until it really doesn't work. And as long as there is enough time, there is still hope, even if it is going very badly. Now we are here and doing the best we can, but we don't know, he says.
---
Approaching competitive form:
Ingebrigtsen explains that he has had a very different approach to training, also around the testing and training camp system.
– Everything has been turned upside down a bit. In isolation, it's exciting to be thrown into something that you have to do completely differently. But we would have liked to have been a little closer to what we have control over, he says.
But he reportedly received good answers during the last week at the training camp in Kyoto – together with his brothers Henrik and Filip.
– So maybe it's a bit coincidental, but it's been getting better and better in recent weeks. And in the last week we're getting closer to something I can compete with in terms of form, explains Ingebrigtsen
Still, he adds that he has no idea what it will mean in terms of sport. He will only know that when he actually starts the competition.
– I'm very excited. There are a few extra nerves and a few extra questions that you have about yourself and your own form about what basis you have, he says.
– I just have to try to get the best possible result in Tokyo. But we won't know until it happens. We are just as excited as everyone else about what it will be, Ingebrigtsen continues.
---
Incredibly difficult:
Ingebrigtsen points out that the injury period throughout the summer has been difficult.
– The biggest challenge in a difficult situation, where there is a lot of uncertainty, is that everything goes back and forth, he says.
During one training period he felt good, but then he suddenly experienced worse periods. It has been going back and forth like this all summer long.
– It makes it incredibly difficult to plan anything. That uncertainty about taking one step forward, two steps back, and then taking three steps forward and then two steps back.
Firstly, he is excited about whether he will feel ready enough to compete in the 1500 meters, and secondly, he is excited about what he will actually compete with.
– It's hard to say. Because especially in our training, we don't get much feedback on how our form is, what we've done and what's working, he says and continues:
– That's what makes it a little extra nervous before a season opener, because then you get the first answer to how good shape you actually are and what effect you have actually had from the work you have put in.
Ingebrigtsen is registered for both the 1500 and 5000 meters in the World Championships. In the latter event, he has won two World Championships gold medals and one Olympic gold medal in the previous three seasons.
---
Tricked into throwing in the towel:
He says that the uncertainty has taken a lot out of him – both for himself and the rest of the supporters.
– It's not so much because of myself that I'm here – at least not that prepared – but at the same time, maybe I'm the only one who has had a goal of being in the World Cup.
When the team around him said that it might not be a good idea to go to the World Cup, he spoke out against it.
– The others probably thought it was a good idea to throw in the towel a long time ago. But now we're here, and we're trying, and we'll see what happens.
Ingebrigtsen highlights his brothers, his wife Elisabeth, and physiotherapist Steffen Vasbø as some of the supporters who have helped him to the World Cup.
– We don't know what it means in terms of sport when we are here, but we try to do as well as we can today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and then suddenly it's – basically – a trial heat.
– For me, this is both the start of the season – and the highlight of the season. It will be very different. The plan is to take one race at a time and do each step as well as we can. Then it's just a matter of using the answers you get, and taking your confidence where you have the opportunity.
Sir I don't find Jakob's chances for placing top 3 high at all you feelin me sir????? It's just mission impossible for him, just look at him with such a major achilles injury only started training proper 6 weeks ago and cross training all summer it's just impossible alright!!!!!!!!
I've been following him very closely all summer perusing every detail and every stride in all his videos and safe to say he is OFF DA MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is not running, looking, feeling like himself it's so easy to tell due to my metaphysics space-time background you feelin me?????? He looks like he has just emerged from a traumatic concussion of some sort, he speaks so slowly in such jaded fashion and he cannot utter his sentences eloquently like my sweetest darling KERR JOSH!!!!!!!!!
Look at my darling's latest awesome video, look at the frictionless verbal and non-verbal PRESENTATION JUST SIMPLY IN CRUISE CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The way he talks, moves, runs, interviews, GOSHHHHHHHH HE IS SIMPLY DESTINED TO WIN THE GOLD MEDAL IN TOKYO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many did Jakob have at Niels' age? 🧐 Jakob was older than Niels when he won in Tokyo.
Niels is a great runner. Has a bright future ahead of him.
Fair and square dear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But you do recognize you have a tendency to minimize Kerr over Jakob right Snowflakes?????? Is that what I have known you for all this time???? Please reply me alright!!!!
Start lists will be posted tomorrow (48h) before the start of the race. So we will at least know if he's still trying to run this event or not.
Also I just checked with some in Tokyo, he could still declare for the 1500, be on the startlist and then DNS with no issues for the 5000 (in the event that happened)
That really makes him seem like an escapist you feelin me sir????? Is he going to wait until he discovers Hocker got a stomach virus and pulled out the last minute or Kerr got knocked over by a bus and rushed to hospital to not pull out from the 1500m race????? This wait and see approach seems very morally undignified and dishonorable for Jakob loolol!!!!

Not strangely but rather serendipitously in a way that my physics acuity allows or is destined or is thus proven beyond a shadow of doubt, the dumb mods deleted a very same comment I made to the extent of Filip and Henrik not wanting Jakob to go to worlds and skip is altogether. I keep a strict record copy of all my comments and here it was that was falsely deleted:
”Please Henrik and Filip, spare your little brother Jakob and let him be a father just one time this summer autumn!!”
Before that I made mentioned using my special ability to read human space-time prospects that Jakob’s training video showed him in emotional turmoil and forlorn hope and listlessness what with trying to lighten the mood every now and then with bland jokes and goofy philosophical lines and looking every bit pale and exhausted in the face. He is not in the pink of health and looks almost dishevelled. Looks like a man under continuous invisible attack.
For reading him accurately people got upset and deleted my then comments sigh…..well now I’ve been proven right bah ha!! The brothers never wanted him to go to worlds oh boy!
Jakob’s disobedience is going to tear a straight line through the center of his Achilles come the 1500m rounds. If he thinks he can handle 54s pace after all summer not doing much specific work he will die a terrible death. He may succeed in Tokyo and win gold but there will be a price tag to that!!
Know that you are a huge influential figure on LRC, both you and me because we BEAR OUR CROSSES DAY AFTER DAY and imprison our sins in Christ Amen!!!!!!!! We know the laws of the universe which is RF Physics and we also know the laws of the sunken earth where sin and imperfections rule!!!!! We can then foretell and make eerily accurate predictions in space and time before those reality even unfolded and this shall be known as METAPHYSICAL PRESCIENCE!!!!!!!
Henrik and Filip who are much older and have been through their careers knows that their little brother however successful he has been more than them would never be at his best come Tokyo due to an attenuated summer season suffering an injury that is serious enough to lay him off for April, May, June, July, 4 months in total!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I was 25, I know I made a lot of wrong decisions in my life because those were often guided by LUSTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lusted after everything, you name it my dear, it's crazy but I'm no longer 25 and I thank God for that. I'm now a wisdom elderly with peerless knowledge about human consciousness and existence!!!!!!
Thank you for your contribution King of Physics!!!!!!!
