Didn't seem to be an issue until she started winning golds on the world stage...
Her jaw is bigger and a lot more severe, goes along with her rather oddly dense musculature, which in person is gives off the uncanny valley feeling. Straight out of a vial.
She does look somewhat odd in person, like her muscles are not natural. It’s hard to explain but easy to see in person. It looks ‘off’.
It can't just be because people think she doesn't run enough
For that to be true it would mean people were actually fans but her inactivity made them dislike her, which makes no sense
I've never seen any athlete pick up a legion of detractors just because they're inactive, so we know that isn't the underlying cause
So what is the root issue for you if you're one of those who isn't a fan of Sydney?
I don't hate her, I hate her coach. I think he's a manipulative doper and it's all about him. A lot like Salazar. Always wondered why Kersee "develops" only females and never males.
Makes sense with her coach.
In the past I'd definitely say not racing was frustrating as a fan but it's been a nice change to see her get out there and compete in 2025.
Here's some reasons why I believe people don't like her:
1. Her coach and his reputation for PED use
2. Lack of racing (more relevant in years prior to 2025)
3. Lack of personality - she seems so reserve and I don't think any fans feel like they know her so it's frustrating
4. Due to #2 and #3 I don't think she's taking advantage of helping grow the spot. She's a dominant, attractive women who could bring a lot of eyes to T&F but it feels like she doesnt care to help which kind of comes off as selfish even if it's unfair to think that way
5. Her religious beliefs and being vocal about them (to me this is a silly one but heard multiple people say this is a reason so I could omit it).
I dont hate her at all, but also don't support her as an athlete, because it seems like she dont like track and field at all. Just the practicality of supporting an athlete that almost never races is off. I also think her coach and his other athletes have a weird vibe.

This above exactly - and also the five o'clock stache and constantly growing male type jawline - could be natural causes for those of course, but the original fashion model for Nike apparel thingy vibe doesn't jive with us.

I don’t think looks should matter as much here, and if it did it would be only be positive for me as I think she looks stunning. As with men I think for women there is a wide spectrum on how muscular etc you can look, but I think her and most athletes still has a lot of femininity which doesn't make any muscles or jawline appear as masculine for me.
However I think seldomly competing and avoiding international competition is fishy at worst, and a big disservice to the sport at best.
Calling everyone "racist" lost at the ballot box. Syd is mixed race. I'm a fan of Audrey Werro and Sophia Gorriaran. Not a fan of Syd.
Syd has an abrasive/unlikeable personality, a "curated" race schedule, shady coach, suspicious appearance. The fact that she's "good" doesn't excite me in the slightest. I'm not a bugman who's most impressed by the fastest moving object.
Yes I'm a Femke fan. And while I don't dislike Syd "because of" Femke, talk about an enormous contrast.
I didn’t start this thread thinking the primary reason was racism or sexism (or some combination), but after reading nothing but the dumbest possible “explanations,” I can’t help but conclude…
She's not african american, she's mixed race. Also,im black. She has all the things i said, plus her body dont look right, and a moustache. She's a chemical queen.
