According to NRK and a press release from his press advisor Espen Skoland, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has confirmed that he will be on the start line in Tokyo.
He is yet to confirm which distance(s) he will run, but he confirms that he will not run any other competitions leading up to Tokyo, stating that this is less than ideal but so be it.
He also posted on facebook yesterday that he did a 20x400 track session, but not giving any details on pace.
As a Norwegian Jakob fanboy I love that he is back, but I don't fancy his odds of winning the 1500 after watching Laros the last weeks
That’s a standard session for Jakob that he does year-round so not too revealing. The positive of his injuries is if he runs the 1500 maybe he swallows his pride and abandons the front running from the gun tactic. I’d still favor the new big 3 of Laros, Hocker and Kerr to beat him but he’d have a better chance. Excited that he’s competing, and it’s a credit to him that he is willing to go in way less than 100% prepped.
Rather than ego, after being outkicked in the last two WC, he believed that pushing the pace from the gun was his only chance of winning. If he’s not 100%, there is no chance of him medaling, in either the 1500 or 5000m, no matter how the races play out.
There’s nothing positive about being injured. If it is beneficial, every spring, the top runners should shut down the running portion of their training for a month or so.

I don’t know…from his comments he indicated it was the noblest way to win and so on. It’s not like he didn’t lead plenty of 2022-23 Worlds. We can’t get inside his brain to see if that’s justifying his best move to win or he really believes it is superior to win with frontrunning. I tend to think he has a bit of a complex with how Doha and Tokyo (2021) played out and wants to show he can win one like Tim did.

5th or 6th? Jakob doesn't race to be embarrassed. If he is on that starting line he will be racing to win. As for sharpness he did break the indoor mile/1500m as his first race off of just training, and last year after being injured, he did run 3:45 for 2nd at pre. as his opening race. Keely Hodgkinson ran a near PR after being injured for several months in her first race. And all these people running fast 1500m, yet no one has come close to Jakob's times. As for Niels Laros, he has never beaten Jakob and they did race during this past indoor and he was crushed by Jakob. Jakob fears no one and he will be ready for all comers!

The unknown is in the minds of his competitors. Always better to be the Underdog than the favorite. Everyone expects Laros to win. Jakob has been in those shoes many times. I dont think he wins but I bet he medals

Then that is ego over intelligence.
the injury and a bruised ego might be the best thing for his championship race tactics in a roundabout way

His success will come from fitness and not a bruised ego. Racing is very physical and what a runner thinks is meaningless. It’s not going to help him kick faster or to open a gap on the field.
What about the last 200m of no pacer, world title 1500 meter finals?
Don't speak the truth in these threads. It isn't welcome.
Well, look while I don't always agree with you, I do in this particular case.
I mean, how ridiculous is it to be downvoted for simply stating a fact??
The poster said that when he runs "he never seems to be in trouble and is completely relaxed" . And all we did was point out of that in the last three global championship 1500m , the race that REALLY MATTERS, he obviously was not "relaxed" nor " not in trouble. " He was in big trouble, as he lost. And last year didn't even medal! That's some serious trouble if you ask me.
That doesn't take away from his overall greatness, but..... Let's not be hyperbolic about. In several recent instances he's been "in trouble" when it mattered most.

Bottom line here, in this forum, is if he doesn't make a final or doesn't medal there will be a lot of I told you so's and celebration. If he wins a medal or even wins something, there will be nashing of teeth and accusations of cheating but not that someone is capable of being cautious in training their way back to a level LRC people can't fathom. Im not saying he'll even show up but Im not going to be surprised if he does things that seem impossible. Reality is probably somewhere in between.

I think you missed his point…
How so? Didn’t the poster claim a bruised ego is beneficial?
You say no one has come close to his times, but Habz and Phanuel Koech both ran 3:27 this year and Hocker, Kerr, and Nuguse did it after rounds last year, so there are still four other guys going to World's who have run 3:27, not far off Jakob's best.
