Don't get me wrong, I hope Nuguse wins today and gets the wild card to worlds, but I think the wild card in general is a terrible idea. We have several races where the clear favourites are not running and the fields are underwhelming (e.g., the 3000 right now) yet the winner will get a wild card.

Vernon Norwood making another team. Brings tears to my eyes. He's gotta be the best Diamond League competitor to never win one, right? He's gotten 2nd 6 times, third 10 times and 4th 12 times. That's top half in 28 Diamond Leagues without a win. 2/3rds of his Diamond League competitions with a top-half finish.

I hear what you're saying, but Norwood's PR is 44.10 from 2024. Tied for 26th best time since Jan 1 2015, 18th since Jan 1 2020. Gotta respect his longevity and consistency (first broke 45 in 2015!), but he's never been the best in the world.

It's outrageous how much contempt all of these broadcasts have for track fans.
It's almost not worth watching at all.
I thought for the final surely they would actually show the races but no silly me.
Since picture in picture technology has existed for decades now it's clearly a conscious choice.

The interests of the meet organizers and athletes are not always aligned. Sometimes it's athletes asking for pace, but often it's the organizers hoping for fast times and more attention. Pace often doesn't make much sense in a championship race.
