But if the manner of achieving zero murders tramples people's rights, that's less good, right? It's not safety at all costs, we are constantly trying to balance safety with freedom.
I'm not even saying Trump has been trampling people's rights, but that has been the concern. I also have concerns about the sustainability of the approach. Sure if you double a policy force overnight and tell them to crack heads, you'll get great short term results, but once things go back to normal, then what? Resources are limited for everything, most American cities will not be able to double the police force on a permanent basis while balancing constraints related to education, housing, and the many things that a city government does. Resources are limited, people don't want to get taxed like crazy so it's always a balancing act.
