Mondo's a very big fish in a very small who has no rivals.

This s**t is boring as hell; it's like he sets a new record each time he competes. Reason some of us do not take his discipline seriously - it's a joke.
Seguey Bubka version 2 and God know how I hated that Russian opportunist in a time where the leftish countries were collapsing.
The best thing about Mondo is rhat he's Swedish
Have you guys seen the video yet, he was well over it, looked at least 10cm clear.
This discussion about mondo and the WR raises a valuable point
Track and Field is literally stuck in the dark ages when it comes to tech and innovation
There's literally zero tech on display in the vault
Heck I played video games back in the 80s and you had projected estimates of the vault on the runup
Theres literally nothing not even a indication on the vault of potential height or a flashing pole or something

You are a very angry little man.
Tooth Ugg Eels!!!
Ok, look, I'm not a vaulter or coach, just a 50-year track fan, but ...
It's not easy, or a given, for Mondo to set each new record. It's a perception bias because you only watch each video of a new record, not the meets where he misses 3 WR attempts.
Admittedly his hips are some 10-15 cm above the bar at his apex in the pike position, but to gain that height requires a smaller angle from the torso to legs, a "thinner parabola shape." Mondo brushed the bar on the ascent with his legs and on the descent with his chest. He cleared this height by the thinnest of margins, not by the height at apex but by the necessary shape of that path going up and down.
A record of 6.40 will require the strength and speed to use a slightly longer and stiffer pole. Mondo is already very fast, strong, and acrobatic. These records come from the hard work of incremental increases in speed and strength. He is an amazing athlete, the product of natural ability inherited from two athletic parents, honed by a lifetime of training. Perhaps he will set a WR in the decathlon someday and convince the naysayers of his unique athleticism.
You are such a goof. Go run some fartleks you f**kin nerd.
this is most certainly the case, bummer. would be cool if his sponsor could make some other arrangement to incentivize going big(gest).

Can someone explain why Puma in a next contract wouldn't incentivize breaking the world record by more at once?
E.g. $100k to break it by 1cm
$210k to break it by 2cm
$350 to break it by 3cm
Or even just $100k per cm and if he wants to take a big swing, he can
I think it's worth doubling down on this.
Breaking the WR by a centimeter at a time doesn't generate much hype. Imagine Puma treated it as their own "breaking 4". $1M if he jumps 6.35 or something.
We’ll never know what he really could have jumped in his prime because he’s happy to break it a cm at a time.
He showed his heals to the 400h WR at 100m in a time, when adjusting for wind is better than Tyrek Hill. And he hasn't used starting blocks in a long time. Thinking that a generational athlete is not very athletic shows how out of touch some posters are. I officiate the vault and watching a guy go 5.65/18'6" is amazing.
People in lets run are weird! I have never seen so many haters because someone set a world record!? He is a generational talent!

Bubka is not Russian.

Good vault, but I've long jumped further. Just saying.
If I were in Mondo's shoes, I'd probably do the same thing. Guaranteed $100k bonuses for every time he goes above certain heights that are well inside his ability. The fatigue about this is apparent here on letsrun and I also see it from more casual followers. Got me thinking about what would happen if Mondo decided to say F it and just go max out his ability and it was like 6.45 or something. Would his public image be much different? My impression is that he doesn't currently have the same level of fame as Sydney Mclaughlin or Simone Biles. Would he if he jumped 6.45? Pole vault may be too niche of an event and not really marketable enough, so I don't know. It would be awesome if track had another person reach this level of fame though. I don't know enough about the topic to know if this would be even more lucrative to Mondo (but to Mondo it obviously isn't worth trying to find out).

Sydney Mclaughlin more famous than Mondo? I guess you are american
I struggle to care about his world records and even fast forwarded through this most recent one when watching the replay.
