Yet again I am stoked for another Clayton Young docuseries. I loved Andrew Storer spotting Casey Clinger and Creed Thompson. Two of the best up marathon prospects in America, training with the 2 best marathoners in America.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to the next part in the series.
Clayton seems too introspective, thinks a bit too much about the data and recovery scores and what not.
Obviously very consistent and fit but I would love to see the guy get dangerous. Getting on base is great but take a few home run swings. Go for that 2:05- 2:06 with the risk of running 2:19 with some 6:00 miles at the end.
Let the cowboys ride Clayton!!! The fitness is there
This may be true, but the video is also an advertisement for the gadgets that generate recovery scores, so of course he's gonna talk about it
Anyone else find his content extremely boring, serious and over-produced? It's like he's constantly carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, needs to learn to chill out a bit.
I also find it bizarre how Mantz just ignores coaches paces every time and just runs off the front. He's like a child. Must drive Clayton mad

Why are Casey Clinger and Creed Thompson considered two of the best marathon prospects? Clinger had a solid but not spectacular NCAA career. And Thompson even less so. But I don't follow them so maybe they have shown some proclivity for longer distances? Genuinely asking.

Ummm, well my personal highly-biased opinion for one. For two...well...
Clinger is the American Record holder in the 25k and ran 27:11 in the 10k. I think he will break Lenny Korir's record for American debut marathon this fall, in fact I think he's going to smash it. And I think if you were to have a bookie for 2028 Team USA marathon, Casey would have a lower line than Clayton.
Creed, Joey Nokes, and Aidan Troutner are also training with the pro team. Honestly, Aidan has looked really strong, while Creed and Joey have been on the learning curve a bit more. You'd expect given their times that they could close that gap on him but that remains to be seen. Troutner...his track times scare me but he has looked really solid in workouts, he's keeping up with Clinger/Mantz/Young in some of the workouts.
Creed will run Chicago, and then go back for one more year of track eligibility. I think he will go barely sub-2:10 in Chicago. Nokes is probably going to run CIM. And Aidan Troutner, we will see. It's anybody's guess which of those guys is going to have a solid career because both Thompson (13:29 5k, 28:04 10k) and Nokes (13:27 5k, 28:05 10k) have the track times to run a fast marathon but you don't know if they'll have the strength. Troutner (13:47 5k, 30:04 10k) I worry will become like CJ Albertson, where he can run a solid pace for a while but if people make moves and try to run away from him, he can't quite keep up.

I have to admit I like Young as a runner and a person but the USA Olympic trial finish was a bit odd. I'm sure there are reasons for it that are not obvious to me, but to allow someone to win is almost a black mark. That was the chance of a a big win for the taking and probably would still his PB on a legal course if he ran through the line. I don't think he'll get another chance to actually win (another) marathon.

He is soooo boring and serious. I’ve been at numerous functions where he’s been a speaker and it’s like watching paint dry. The guy really has the most blah personality.

Not boring in the least. I like the inside look into Eyestone’s training, and the humanizing of a great athlete. Did you want him to do a tik tok dance or what?

It’s not that we want him to do a TikTok dance, but he constantly deeps everything as if running is the only thing in the world. Look at content creators like Ran To Japan, he’s improving a lot and having fun with it, not taking himself too seriously etc. after watching him I want to go out for a run, after watching Clayton I want to curl up in a dark room.

It's not for everyone and that's fine. But he is carrying a lot of weight. He has a wife and two girls, Ms. Young doesn't seem to have a job, how well he runs determines if his family can stay in their house or not.
Clayton has talked before about how that's driven a lot of friction between the two of them. But the solution they've sort of settled on is that now, on some workouts, Conner gives Clayton and Casey a head start and catches them midway.
What's the other Thompson doing, debut marathon soon? All this talk about Clinger, but we need to include Richtman, Maier, Ford, Colley, etc as well
I think Davin may have struggled at times with injury. I'm not sure what his plans are at this point.
You say all this talk, but it's really only me haha. I don't know anyone else who is hyping Clinger up.
Richtman got a lot of publicity when he ran 2:07:57 in LA. I really want to see him repeat his performance before I make any judgments. He didn't run super well in Tokyo speed, and his track times were not elite, can he keep up if other runners push the pace.
Maier is, I think from an objective rating perspective, the top prospect in US marathoning right now. 13:26 5k, 28:12 10k PB. US Champ in the half marathon. 2:08:33 second marathon. I don't think he has Clinger's upside but he's shown he can do it for 26.2.
Ford didn't have great college times but actually ran a fast 10k in 2024 that qualified for USAs, and ran a fast Boston. He also has a sub-61 half. He's certainly fast, my question with him is sort of the same as Richtman, although he's faster than Richtman. What happens when Conner Mantz bombs down the first mile, goes out in 4:30. Are you going to go with, or are you going to hold back and wait for stragglers to come back to you? Because running a steady pace can get you a good time, but like if 10 people go with Mantz, yeah a bunch of them will fall off the back but Alex Maier might hang on. Casey Clinger might hang on. Charles Hicks and Zouhair Talbi might hang on. Some runners will come back to you, yes, but are you going to fall so far behind that you just aren't really ever in the race to make the podium, or the Olympic team, etc.
Colley is a veteran, bit weird to see his name with all the prospects.
