This upcoming women's 800 is legitimately insane and maybe the most unpredictable event of the whole meet. 8 of 9 women have run under 1:59 this season (+ Valery Tobias who's no slouch either), and only 1 of them has run under 1:58 (Wiley). I genuinely think all 9 of them have a serious shot, and I couldn't tell you who the favorites are (Akins? Wiley? but only by a smidge). Not sure the last time a Finals at USAs has been so completely wide open.
I want to hear where people are putting their money right now, less than an hour before the race.
I'll be thrilled if everyone stays on their feet. Let's go Wilson, SHK, Congdon. Not much logic behind that other than thinking Akins and Wiley burnt a little too much in the semis, and Wilson will be moving forward for second. I was pretty high on Rogers coming in but didn't think her semi looked great.
Thought Wiley was the favorite but her semi spooked me badly, I don't trust her. Think Akins is a half-level above the rest of the field. Rooting for Raevyn and Ajee but I think they're just too old. Wouldn't be surprised to see Meghan Hunter make it, it feels like NCAA women have been performing well this meet (prob due to extra long break between NCAAs and USATF)
Do they also do heats and finals of the 200 on the same day? That struck me as odd. Also weird to me that the men have a much longer break than the women between the heat and the final.
