I agree with this. Public universities which operate off of taxpayer dollars should be primarily focused on developing American talent, both academically and athletically. Perhaps the easiest solution would be to limit the number of non-U.S. citizen scorers at NCAAs to just 1 or 2 in cross country and maybe 3 to 4 in track.
i support this... most professional soccer leagues have some rule that limits the number of foreign players on a roster.
Eyestone sits on a unique recruiting opportunity. Take top Mormons who aspire to BYU and sprinkle in a few others who look for altitude, conservative student life and coaching.
No need for Kenyans, now he can't even take everyone he would want to.
They also have the best minor league pipeline of an NCAA team with SLCC right there
SLCC completely dissolved their track team out of nowhere about a month ago, all the coaches quit, and they drastically cut their xc roster down to bare bones. They also announced they will no longer be traveling to any out-of-state meets going forward. SLCC running is dead.

Yeah, not really. It’s a rule without practical meaning. In the EPL have to have on the squad a certain number of UK? players or international players who the club developed from the youth ranks - but as a reality ManCity can still start a whole lineup without any of those players because there are so few required spots.
A copycat ncaa rule would something like “at least 9 of the 17 roster spots need to be Americans or have gone to HS in the U.S., but run at nationals whomever you want.
I don’t know much about this topic, but I am pretty sure the number of race bibs haphazardly pinned at a near 60 degree angle too high or too low on the singlet is going to increase because of this

Why you bring up the single most elite league when I said most PRO leagues? Yes EPLs rule is fairly easy to get around but you're talking about 1 league (that still has a rule btw) when most are not...
Not showing sympathy at all. I am kenyan and i am disgusted by the doping problem. Imagine defending an athlete then he/she gets popped later, it makes it hard to be a fan of kenyan athletics anymore and I am kenyan so It's ruining the sport for most of us And if I was an official in kenya i would have pushed for a law with real consequences that makes doping illegal(including jail terms).
You don't know what happens with most kenyan athletes but I do. 99.99% of dopers are mostly failed athletes or athletes who can no longer live up to previous expectations and they are under pressure from their agents.
But regardless of the reason they do it, doping up to get people's money by cheating is fraud and frankly until they start treating doping as fraudelent behaviour i dont think it will end. So no I don't sympathise at all. I was just giving context to the influx of kenyan athletes to NCAA
I have been to the antidoping meetings and they insist and I mean insist on college education and even provide athletes interested with the opportunities to pursue other careers. Especially junior athletes who are talented but not really really talented. Because if their career at some time fails to take off and they are in their late 20s with no education or nothing else best believe it they will dope
Every time we turn around we see another college team adding multiple Kenyans who were top xxx in some Kenyan national race or other.
Is this the new normal? We’ve always had lots of fast intentional runners, which is generally fine, but there seem to be a lot of already developed runners coming over this summer.
Proud to say I ran D2 these days 🤙
Even though when I was in the NCAA The DII slogan was something like "I chose this" 🤣😂.
Boy are you off base. 50% of the 14:00 guys didn't break 9:10 in high school.
A 9:10, or slower, HS runner that goes on to break 14:00, would have been undertrained, and since there are few such runners, they would be hard to find.
If a 9:10 guy could improve his mile pace for the 5000m by 5 seconds, an 8:40 HSer should be able to run 13:12 or faster. The main barrier for your 9:10, or slower runners, is that over half of them don’t have the leg speed to sniff 14:00 and triple threshold won’t change that. Another problem is that if a college coach insisted on triple threshold workouts, there would soon be no one left on the team.
This is nothing new. The agent thing is but let’s take a look back at 2012 shall we. One American high schooler in the top ten. Zero American born in the top ten.
I suspect that in the pre internet / strava / supershoes era, sub 9:15 times meant about what sub 8:55 means now. But I have checked how many of each there are.

Schools are contracting brokers to find Kenyans to run for them. Yup! Brokers are charging schools $10,000-$25,000 to bring in top Kenyan runners to compete. In addition, the school is providing a full scholarship and potentially NIL opportunities. Do you honestly think that Kenyans are lining up to go to New Mexico or Washington State because of the coaching? Hell No! Washington State recently downsized its program to middle-long distance only. Do these coaches actually believe they're coaching? Look at their resumes, ain't nothing to write home about. Their only responsibility is to make sure their "investment" shows up to practices and races, enter meets, shuttle them around, hold a stop watch, and watch them run. Easy Peazy! Not much anyone can do, just sit back and watch elite Kenyan runners of any age destroy NCAA competition for however long and then bail out after a season or two. Maybe, the smart ones stick around and get their degree, but very few do. If you can find a school with an AD who is willing to drop a $100,000 for 3-4 top notch African runners, APPLY NOW!!!! No experience necessary!!!! Just walk and around with a watch around your neck, and pretend to know what your doing. Maybe yell out some insightful motivational gems like, "You need to go now"!, "Go, Go, Go", or "You're looking great"! After the race, you load 'em up, take them to Subway for lunch and then off to the airport.
The US college system has tons of international athletes. Maybe because they are black and very good the Kenyans stand out more. Lots of Europeans, Canadians, etc...
If you actually had 7 guys in that fitness range for cross country you would be a top 10-15 team in the country. You obviously won't win nationals, but 13:50 shape in the cross country season can get you top 100 at nationals.
BYU decided to fight fire with fire. You don't need Kenyans because they do not exist. They are just shameless dope cheats. Just need to do what they do.
