She was tested throughout her entire four year suspension and never tested positive. She was tested during indoors when she won silver at Worlds. She would not suddenly become "more cautious" now. I think another poster nailed it with the idea that she burned all her matches for 2025 during indoors trying to earn a sponsorship. I think she is just a little cooked right now. But I also think she could make the Tokyo team.
Tests carried out by USADA declined quite a bit during her suspension so I hope AIU made up the difference.
2018 12 2019 18 2020 17 2021 13 2022 17 2023 9 2024 7 2025 7 (only half a year so on track for much higher number)
Its not like USADA would do anything if they got a positive either.
Shelby's 14:45 makes her the 3rd-fastest woman in the US so far this year. Based on how far back she finished in the 1500m at Pre, my guess is she'll only do the 5k at the US championships (at least, that would be the wise thing for her to do), given how compressed the meet schedule will be.
If Shelby sticks to the 5k so she can run that event fresh, she'll have a good chance of making the team. In the 5k, Josette Andrews appears to be the clear #1 in the US this year.
I was giving him(/her?) the benefit of the doubt, while still pointing out the fallacy in the post.
The benefit of the doubt?? Then why did you write "you just lied about that"??? What a troll. Still upset that your fave druggie slipped up and forgot to install a quiet doorbell?
BooHoo gave us a false choice. But I still didn't question the heartfelt sentiment, giving BooHoo the benefit of the doubt, as I have done with Houlihan.
I said in another thread she ran a ton in indoor season - restless from being out of competition for so long, also trying to impress a pro team and get sponsored. but it doesn't look like it worked. she might be partially cooked and also demoralized.
I agree with this take. I think her return was all adrenaline, but now the dust settled, and I think what she's been through is catching up to her, in addition to age.
I don't feel bad for her of course. She cheated and was caught. But man this sport is so dirty. Throwing all this vitriol at one person who was actually caught while pretending some of these performances are real...
Looks like she is going to be living out of a van now. I think she paid a heavy price for what happened. I hope she finds peace in her personal life.

Poor thing is now forced to live in a trailer. At least hers in new and not a sh!tbox like Engels. Maybe she can get sponsored by OBI (Out Back Innovations) the maker of her overpriced RV.
Honestly, looking at this list, Shelby might be the favorite for USA’s considering the history of the other top contenders. We have to remember that Andrew‘s consistently performs very well during the regular season, but has only finished in the top eight at a USA championship one time in her entire career.
more importantly, if you look at Shelby‘s 5000m splits from Rome, you can see that at 2000m she was on 14:31 pace, at 3000m was at 14;37 pace and still hung on for a 14:45 in her first 5000 m race in about five years.
although Shelby might be done in the 1500m, we have to admit that she still has somewhat of a kick, she won Silver at world indoors, and I don’t think any competitor in this year‘s US women’s 5000m championship will be able to run fast enough to drop her outside of Andrews, who isn’t really known for pushing the pace during championships.
Even before her ban, she rarely raced. Which made many of us suspect there was something unusual in her nutritional program. But she has to deal with the fact she is 4 years older and that indoor season may have taken a big toll on her. She can make the U.S. team in the 5k. It will probably be a tactical race and her kick is probably good enough - especially against an incredibly weak U.S. contingent.

Barely racing was a Jerry Schumacher thing, not just a Shelby Houlihan thing. I didn't follow Shelby Houlihan closely, couldn't tell you if she raced less than other Schumacher athletes, but you can find plenty of discussion about how other athletes coached by Schumacher did the same thing. It even dates back to his time coaching the Badgers.

Weini Kelati - ran 14:38 at Pre, but she will probably run the 10k at the US championships; if she runs the 5k too, she'd be doubling back in a short time span. That didn't work out well for her in 2023, when she finished 4th in the 10k but then only 8th in the 5k a few days later.
Karissa Schweizer - Shelby beat her by over 10 seconds in Rome
Elise Cranny - hasn't been running well lately; Shelby beat her at Pre
Parker Valby - MIA, dealing with injury
Whittni Morgan - according to her World Athletics profile, she hasn't raced since the GST Kingston meet in April. Is she injured?
Who do you think will make the 5k team?
Ya I think there's still a good shot she makes the 5000m team
I have high hopes for Karissa. Don’t forget about Amanda Vestiri. Mackay said in her post race interview at Pre she was hoping to double at USAs, though I can’t imagine she’d do both at worlds even if she made both teams.
She's lucky US women's running is relatively weak without St Pierre and Valby, but I still don't see her making the US team.
I dont think she's having a bad season. She's running naturally,so of course she's slower. She still has great talent, clean,or doped, and not too many women could run as fast as her, clean.

No she is smart actually and that’s what cheaters do. You come back incognito and will get going at the end of the season with a good contract and nobody will complain about her😉

It would be fantastic to have Vestri, Schweizer and Mackey it Cranny. The others that come to mind are cheaters

This thread is ridiculous.
Shelby's outdoor season isn't a disaster. Her indoor season was pretty amazing and better than expected. Outdoors has been worse than expected.
She medalled at World Indoors. She had never medalled before in her career. I think she was super motivated and probably running a little too hard.
Given where she was indoors, her outdoor season hasn't been great, but shouldn't that be kind of expected, particularly if she's coaching herself. It would be very hard , as motivated she is to run well after 4 years off, to not push it too hard in part to try to get a shoe deal.
I think she ran 8:31 indoors. That's like a 14:50 5k according to JK. She ran 14:45 in Rome off of a faster pace. Now her 4:20 indoor mile solo was equal to like a 4:01 and she only ran 4:02 at Pre but maybe she's just training for 5k.
Do we know what her training/coaching situation is?
I'd keep the label " disaster outdoor season" reserved for people who aren't running at all - no need to name names. Shelbys is so far disappointing but no one will are what she ran in June if she gets it right later in the year.

I just saw 3 women run under 14:10 @Pre and 3 other women run under 3:53 only a few hours later. Why are we even discussing Shelby? She is irrelevant and she shouldn't be allowed to compete.
