Impressive performance! She was boxed in for the first 700m because the pacer sucked and was basically just impeding the runners. With Keely hurt, Moraa sucking, and Mu looking out of form, Wiley can absolutely medal In Tokyo!
Pacer was actually fine, the women were just a bit anxious and ran it more like an 800 than a 1000.
I thought Wiley got in a great position, right on the rail in 4th/5th in a race where the top group stuck with the pacer. When I saw ~1:58 at 800 I was a bit surprised
The amount of hate for Wiley is so disproportionate. I get that some don't like her coach (or coach's husband), but it's crazy to single her out when so many of her competitors have had ties to Salazar etc. and/or currently belong to highly suspected doping regimes globally.
And anyone can see she's not only phenomenally talented but also a lovely person overall.
I can only conclude that much of the current running establishment in the US doesn't like her because of who she is. I don't think they like that she's a committed Christian with old-school values from the heartland who's loyal to the people and places who've supported her. Who's blazed her own trail -- with college, with coaching, etc. -- and already had incredible success, despite so often defying what the insiders said she "should" do.
I believe these people will find every excuse to overlook or dismiss her, until she becomes a global outdoor medalist and they're downright forced to recognize her. (I could think of a close parallel in the world of politics, but I'll leave it at that.)

I once DMed Colleen Quigley on instagram to tell her it wasn't right to post stories harassing a 19 year old cancer survivor without proof, and said it was ironic that Colleen was quoting Steve Magness since he has some similarities with Wiley's high school coach. Squiggles really blew up at that. I guess its hard to accept your buddies' jaded histories, but easy to tear down others, with zero real evidence.
Absolutely going to win USATFs. That's about a 1:56.4 800m which would make her US #3 all-time behind Mu and Wilson. No other American has run faster than 1:58.12 this year. All she has to do is stay on her feet and she's heading to Tokyo. Today locked her place in the Diamond League final.
She now has one 2nd and two 3rds at Diamond League events and she is only 21. I think we can begin the "Diamond League Win Watch." I also think Mu's 800 American Record could be in jeopardy by 2027.
Now, does she run London in 8 days or just head home to rest up? Haven't seen the field yet but if it's not too strong, possibly go for the win and $10K.
I think she has a better chance at the 1500m American Record rather than the 800m record. But overall I agree with your sentiment.

I was right with you until your last sentence which lowered the value of your entire post
