She should go back to her first coach who got her an Olympic 800 medal and ain’t a diva. I think everyone here at lets run could coach her to better to 203,m
Bobby should refuse to coach Mu anymore. She's not even trying. He's wasting his time for an athlete that doesn't care anymore.
Kersee should stop coaching Athing Mu and ask Nike to make a big offer to Natalie Dumas and then make Dumas Sydney's new training partner next summer after Dumas graduates. Dumas is upbeat and motivated, which is more than I can say for Mu.
Her last 100m split was 18.5 according to the DL website, which is slower than Chepngetichs marathon WR average pace to put into context just how horrific this was for her.
Based on how she looked, I'd guess she gave up and jogged in at least the last 40-50m.
Who knows. Clearly she needs something to change before USATF.
(Does her performance last year at USATF allow her to qualify? Otherwise the top-32 list looks like 2:00.78 right now.)

Why do we want yet another amazing talent to go run for psycho Kersee?

You mean the psycho coach who helped Sydney get 6 world records?
It's very sad. As much as I don't like Bobby, I don't think it is her coaching. It just looks like her heart really isn't in it. She needs to just step back and figure out if running/racing truly is important to her. Maybe things were just too easy for her initially.
To the apologists- you do realize you have high school girls destroying 2:03.
mu was happy pre race bc she hadn’t raced anyone yet. That last 100 m was acceptance that she’ll never be back again. Even 200m in she was at the back. Speed gone, endurance gone.
maybe after those successful tune up races she figured it would be no problem to win this one in 2:03
Ha... y'all our clueless. This was just another step in bobby's master plan- her goal was to run the first 600 reasonably hard, mix it up a bit in traffic, and then jog in the last 200 so as not to overtax herself.. Mission accomplished!
She Probably crushed a workout afterwards while you were all hate posting on here!
The got out the first 100 looking like she wanted to be in the pack or lead the pack, then proceeded to slow down and let the whole field go ahead of her. Not sure about that strategy.

A rock could have coached Sydney to 6 world records.
Literally not one person here thought that Sydney could run 50.3 in the 400 hurdles. So don't give me that crap that anyone could have coached her to a time that no one thought she could even run. Besides, Joanna Hayes tried coaching her and Sydney didn't get her anywhere close to 50.3.
Maybe running the 1500 is the ultimate goal in Kersee's process, and this was just another race to get her comfortable running in a pack again/do some pace work.
Trying to make her into a 1500m is the issue.
She’s a 400/800 runner. This whole “I don’t want to see my athletes compete against each other” anxiety that Kersee has is what’s holding Mu back.
Because btwn the 2 athletes who are strong at similar distances, he’s clearly chosen SML.
The craziest thing to me about Mu is that she hasn’t run a single 400 since the Tokyo 4 x 400 final, where she was dominant. To be an Olympic gold medalist in an event, and not do it a single time for an Olympic cycle in your prime. That’s hard to fathom.
The 800m is ever so slightly more aerobic then anaerobic. Still requires some volume. There are outliers but Bobby seems to be effective as a sprint coach. She needs a distance coach and perhaps focus. Maybe. Maybe she has trained at very low volumes with a lot of quality. That’s not going work. This has been known for 70-plus years back to when Lydiard shocked the world with a distance based Peter Snell winning gold two Olympics in a row. Mind you he was an exception but did develop the aerobic engine first by going 80-100 miles per week.
