USATF needs to be reworked completely. The associations are no longer needed and they shouldn’t have voting power. Youth track and field is thriving outside of USATF so USATF should only be hosting national youth championships to remain the pinnacle of achievement at every level. Official should get certification through USATF but not be able to vote on critical issues. Voting on rules, L&L, board representation, etc, shouldn’t be open to such a huge membership base of folks who have never been and never will be performing or coaching at an elite level. We should not be spending so much money on the annual drama convention. The job of the NGB is to develop and field an elite team at the Olympics and world champs, not to please the masses. We need to focus expenses there. We have to get rid of the corruption and get serious. The people who have been hanging around for decades making back door deals so they can keep hanging around - they need to go. The CEO should be paid a reasonable amount and bonuses based on clear revenue objectives. The legal issues and expenses need to stop. Athletes have to feel like a part of the USATF team so that real sponsorships and partnerships can be developed that involve and benefit athletes, utilize their NIL properly, and companies see us as a good investment not a PR risk. We are embarrassing ourselves and the athletes aren’t getting the support they deserve. It could be done so much better and we are at a point right now where the sport could start rapidly declining due to NIL changing the college landscape, other sports gaining popularity, etc. And we are still dealing with the same drama, egos, cannibalism. I honestly hope the usopc blows it up so we can start over. A lot of folks should look themselves in the mirror and be ashamed and then step aside. I hope it doesn’t take a major scandal like at gymnastics to really fix things.
