It's a marketing shot. More couch people know Faith Kipyegon's name than Cole Hocker's this week, but they'll forget it by next week, so you take the shot.

Why? Also if Niki Hiltz identifies as a man, why isn't HE running in the men's mile race.
Bring your Passport, Drivers Licence, Meds to Pre. ICE is detaining American citizens and undocumented.

Oregon's ridiculous obsession with miles will never end. Did it ever even have a great miler?
It's not some big tradition either. The Prefontaine Classic was a modest national-level invitational for years before Nike decided to hype it up to world elites. Hundreds of fans attended, many of whom have since passed away. This history has been revised into legend by corporate branding
What? Centro and Hocker went to college at the University of ______ but besides those two, can you name one other 1500m/mile runner from University of Oregon?
Nikki Hiltz? Is winning the US national championships "great" enough for you?
Cooper Teare won the US nationals as well. Is that a great performance?
Jessica Hull ran 3:50 for 1500m. Is that great? She is second fastest of all time, right?
But in the olden days, they "only" had these sub-4 guys: Jim Grelle, Dyrol Burleson, Keith Forman, Archie San Romani, Wade Bell, Dave Wilborn, Arne Kvalheim, Roscoe Divine, and Steve Prefontaine.

What a better way to honor the man who the feature mile is named after and as few days after he passes away move his event to a minor position
Bill Bowerman is not Bill Dillinger.

One of the traditions at the Pre Classic is that the meet always ends with the Bowerman Mile.
Honestly, I don't care which one they run first. 1500m women's WR attempt is going be awesome. Nuguse vs. everyone in the Bowerman Mile is going to be awesome.
Nike seems to have given up on rule #11; Always remember the Man (Bill Bowerman). Nike likes to try to cash in on tradition but they easily get distracted by the next shinny thing.

Correct - but who is Bill Dillinger?
W 1500 start time will have 80 degree temp, some wind, but very low humidity. One of the best meets, year in and year out. Am not a GST hater by any means but this meet will blow away even their very best days.

they've invested a lot in Faith over the past couple months, so I guess she's been anointed the female Kipchoge. Hope it works out well, and is not just Nike trying to force a square peg into a round hole.
Track fans may love drama and suspense, but The general public loves a reliable and dominant champion. Hopefully Nike is not arriving too late on the scene, and Faith has a couple years left as that person.
I agree the videos they produced around Breaking4 were a pretty thinly veiled attempt to create a Kipchoge-esque aura around Faith. Honestly, it didn't really work for me. When Kipchoge speaks his little aphorisms seem almost prophetic, and by comparison Kipyegon's lines seemed more scripted.
Without a doubt the only genuine superstar on the women's side with as much aura and personality as Kipchoge is Sifan Hassan. However, since 2:10 has now been broken in a legitimate race and there's no chance at sub-60, it's unclear what "Breaking#" event they could have designed around her.
Why? Should always end with the mile. World record not going to happen without Jakob. I believe this year was his last chance

Go clutch your pearls somewhere else, child
The programmers of the meet are totally vindicated here. Faith delivered, it was the perfect ending.
