Cameramen have to sign away all rights to Nike, can't sell, must transfer all footage to Beaverton. Pro Bono. Volunteer. Same for iPhones, Androids, Canon, Nikon, Sony, footage plus stills.
Most years I can remember that course gets EXTREMELY muddy just from a couple high school races.
This course is going to be a disaster before half of the planned races even start. Not fitting for championship selection.
Another bad Gault opinion, this is a terrible idea.
Hey it's okay if we disagree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I'm quite excited for this. I think it has the opportunity to be a great celebration of the sport, especially if the top US stars turn up (and I think they will).
Respectful as always, Jon.
Thank you for being a positive contributing member of this community.
This is THE DUMBEST idea. Glendover is a terrible course to decide an XC team. If they run it before the high schoolers the course will be chewed up to bits before them. If they run it after it'll be torn up for the pros. There is a noticeable difference for the second race every year at NXN. They should have it on the Footlocker course instead.
Wow, can you imagine the crowd they would have drawn if they had put this in San Diego’s beautiful weather at historic Balboa Park???
Brilliant idea. People here aren’t taking into account that it’s WAY cheaper for teams/ athletes to fly into and stay in Portland as opposed to the gazillion layovers into Tallahassee, and overall costs.
And Nike has that $$$, it’s saving so much money all around. Cross Country produces no revenue. Great for the high school kids to race the same day as Pro’s. Which is GOOD for the sport.
Quit being an idiot. San Diego is 10x better than anything up in Oregon in terms of weather, travel accommodations, hotels, etc. Balboa Park is a short hop from the downtown air port.

Yes San Diego would be great. But Nike obviously won the bid over whoever hosts Footlocker. Money talks.
I literally live in San Diego and even hold one of the old Mt Carmel Invite course records there at Morley Field. That course would be brutal for a 10k, and much less excitement for a World XC qualifier. Even that course near Mission Bay is bland. Being hosted at NXN sounds 10x better for the sport than a dying National championship (as much as it sucks). Those HS athletes will be ecstatic, they will be the ones in those PRO’s shoes after college as well.
Portland is just as cheap as San Diego for hotels and flights buddy…just because it’s 70 degrees year round doesn’t mean you can start making things up like these other posters…

Jonathan you couldn't be more WRONG. No top pros are going to risk injury on an DANGEROUSLY MUDDY XC course. Especially not the same weekend as the BU indoor season opener.
Additionally, the 2025 World Track Championships are September 13-21 on the other side of the world in Japan. This XC meet is going to be just over 2 months after that.
If you had a brain you'd be writing a lengthy article about how BAD of an idea this is. It's the cheapest possible option for USATF resulting the worst possible scenario for the athletes.
USATF would profit more off of hosting in Portland…you guys cry about literally everything. You cry about how USATF loses money every year. Well here’s this idea of them cutting their loses since Nike is hosting this event. Oh nooo you are gonna make up more things, start crying about “corruption”. Where is the logic? Holy sh**.
This is amazing for the athletes participating. But apparently everything needs to be done out of appeal for “fans” that are miserable. You complain about everything on this forum. Nearly everybody who is in contention to make the Senior team has already raced the Tallahassee course while in college or in previous years. Those that don’t have experience (odds are they aren’t gonna make the team).
You all are truly stupid on here. Go create your own post collegiate cross country event, and see how much money you can “produce” (you’ll lose hundreds, thousands).

You MIGHT be getting a bit too worked up about this. Also, your use of ALL CAPS is very SIMILAR to the430miler.

Tacoma was muddy too, but not a great selection race.

Was there even a proper bidding process? No one in any of the local clubs knew anything about this until today. Seems kinda odd... Except that this is between Nike marketing Dept and USATF. I guess all is as it should be.

The USATF bid page is public. Anyone organizer can open that and bid. The event is this December. It's not like they rushed this early. The bids get evaluated and voted on by a volunteer committee, chaired by Thom Hunt and Paul Greer. Not Max and the marketing department.
After Max & Seb threw Mike Reilly under the bus at the WC22Eug closing presser, no city mayor or st governor or USATF local can trust Max or Seb. No excuses for Mike Reilly botching the WC22s. But WA and USATF has 7 years to advise Mike on how to do a WC properly. They did not help TTUSA at all and then when the seats were empty, receipts showed a disasterous shortfall they threw Mike Reilly under the bus in front of live TV cameras. They should have said meaningless things and blamed Mike behind his back. Can you imagine today finding a mayor, governor, county commissioner, regional USATF chief who would sign up with Max or Seb when they treat people like that?
This is a HORRIBLE idea that’s all about saving USATF money so there’s more for Max Siegel’s pockets.
This isn’t good for the runners. The course will be torn to shreds.
This isn’t good for the high schoolers. They will be overshadowed by the pros.
This isn’t good for the pros. They lose out on the advantage of getting experience racing on the Tallahassee course before worlds.
I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!
The pros already ran on it during their time at NCAA XC…
The high schoolers will be absolute fanboys, and will be pumped.
USATF isn’t forcing a city to lose money on an event, Nike will take care of it.
The course is the only bad thing. Overall it’s a good thing. Why are you so negative?
I am being negative because it’s a HORRIBLE idea. If it was a good idea, then I’d be positive. Comprende?
Prove that the best pros have all raced in Tallahassee. Even if that’s true, it’s been a while. They would benefit from a reminder of the course and practicing racing in the conditions where the world championships will be held. They get NO benefit from racing in Portland.

What's public? A blank form for open events? Where do I go to look at the completed bid application that the Glendoveer folks submitted? Where do I find any open bids still under consideration? Who are the organizers of the Usatf Cross country Championships being held at Glendoveer? I assume it's the same people that organize NXN, which is an appendage of Nike Global Marketing. If all of this information was so public for so long, why are we all being surprised by this announcement today? I'm not anti Nike. I'm not anti Portland. I'm not anti combining these events. People like me just want some transparency from USATF.
