We merged this thread with another thread that was started as the race was going on. That thread was titled incorrectly (as it was a 2 mile): "Record watch: Hedengren in 3200m"
Wow. #28 world all-time. Obviously not a frequently run event, but still impressive. Should be roughly a 1176 world ranking score, better than her recent 4:23 mile.
Agree, hope she's not racing too much, but it probably helps that most of these recent events have been not quite 100% effort (because she pushing herself but not being pushed by others).
She shouldn’t do any racing at the USA championships. She’s already racing too much as it is, and she has no chance of finishing top 3 in any event.
She should take a break now, rest, and then build her base for fall xc.
She should do whatever her and her coach decide. They clearly know better than the rest of us at this point.
No. They should listen to a neutral third party observer like me who has seen countless high school prodigies burn out from trying to do too much too soon. People in her camp won’t think rationally because they are caught up in the excitement.
She’s broken all the high school distance records now. Job is finished.
While Ms. Hedengren is indeed a special runner, it's only for now. It's hilarious that she keeps getting compared to Alexa Efraimson, who was also a HS phenom and retired at 25 after 8 years of accomplishing nothing as a pro. She also gets compared with Mary Cain, who has not competed professionally in running since 2020, another total bust. They should be cautionary tales, i.e. who cares if Jane is "the HS GOAT"? She should be judged on her performance professionally. No one did any favors to Efraimson or Cain by overhyping them, and the same applies to Hedengren.

You is sound jelly of Goddess Jane and is prolly a male who never even breaked 18 minutes in the 5K.
Holy sh*t, world U20 record???? Am I seeing this right???
I wonder what Medina Eisa ran for 3k or 2 miles in her 14:21.89 for 5k record. With the assumption that she ran even splits, then that's roughly a 9:17 2 mile? Someone better with math can correct. But it wouldn't be surprising if the fastest ever almost-20-year-old Ethiopian girl is quicker than a 18-year-old American. Jane still has a while to get some World U20 records.
So we do believe that Eisa is actually an under 20 athlete? Also Jane unfortunately does not have a ton of time to get U20 records as this is her last year as a junior athlete.
