I saw Galen Rupp one time. I didn’t talk to him because I was looking for my friend that coaches another team. So I walked past him. I did find my friend though. It was good to see him after a long while.
Saw him once at the South Eugene HS track. He was still in HS and he was with Alberto. When asked, Alberto said Galen had just run a 2 mile solo time trial. Kind of recall him mentioning 8:40 something.
The word buzzing around the Nike campus is that he is going to announce his retirement and this is his swan song. Wants to go out in front of a hometown crowd.

I'd love to meet him in person, maybe I'll attend.
Thanks,

I saw Galen at a grocery store in a couple months ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Running must be the only sport/activity where these Mysteries are an "acceptable" part. I don't see it in Swimming, Chess, the major pro sports.
Will we hear any updates about Galen? ie The former USA 10000m record holder and Olympic silver medallist?
Don't hold your breath. We are not worthy. Kids etc. "It's just how it is in running." Yeah. Whatever.
And we wonder why this sport struggles.
(Oasis is playing live soon!!!)
anyone have any knowledge as to why he didn’t compete? Someone should have asked smith cuz he was there.
Word at Nike HQ is that he was/is getting over a virus and didn't feel healthy enough to line up. He's going to push his last race to the Stumptown Twilight on July 19th.
I ran on the Nike Campus today and did two laps on the track as part of my run. Rupp was finishing up his workout (I assume) since he did two 200ms while we were there and everyone else was "wrapping up" their workout.
Rupp looked super fit and a lot bigger (more ripped) than I remember him. The guy I was running with said, "you could see the total lack of fat" which made me laugh. Rupp is shredded right now.
The one thing I didn't know about was a black armband that Rupp was wearing on his left forearm. It was big, like what a football QB carries the plays in, but tight like a compression sleeve (but just on the left forearm). Does anyone know what that could have been? Some kind of a bio-tracker? Sweatband? Combo?
