We Oregonians can figure out fractions plus we are so used to top flight collegiate and elite track that the international metric distances are easy to understand. Besides, there is no recognized world records for 1600 and 3200 meters.
I am sorry to hear that high school track in most U.S. states are run by people that can only count whole laps. Also saddened that those people haven’t figured out how to measure and paint lines for World Athletics recognized Imperial events like the Mile and Two Miles. Condolences to that Iowa kid that just ran 3:59.60 for 1600 meters. Not a sub-four and that mark will be forgotten.
We’re just cool that way. Also, not afraid of pointy things flying through the air!
