Results finally came through and it was a 1:56.6 last 800 for Lalo. Ky Robinson missed the standard but should get in on World Rankings. This might solidify that Woody will run the 10,000 only at USAs or maybe he’ll take another crack.
I think MacLean may be considering moving up in distance. She turns 30 this year, and, despite running her lifetime best at the Trials, she still finished 7th to a bunch of younger runners. With Monson out and Cranny looking terrible at GST, it might be her best shot at making one last team. But 15:08 isn't going to cut it at 5000.
Dude, she ran 4:17 for an indoor mile in February, fourth on the all-time world list. I don’t think she’s giving up on the 1500 quite yet.

Heather is definitely not moving up to the 5000.
Stated an emphatic NOOOOO when asked about it in her FloTrack pre-race interview.
15:08 is pretty darn good for a first-ever 5000, especially considering the last time MacLean ran a race longer than a mile was back in 2017 when she ran her 9:03/3000 pr.
ok Craig Engels, Isaiah Thomas, Brannon Kidder in the 800, Houlihan and Mackay in the 1500, Garcia Romo, Wightman, Waskom, Holt, Prakel, Houser, lotta names in the 1500, Kincaid, Robinson, McGorty, Beamish in the 5k, and Rooks in the steeple
I'm hoping for something good from McGorty, he was in great shape a couple years ago after surgery iirc, and ran ok last year. Also gonna see if any of the 1500 guys are in good shape. Fun to see Houser and Waskom facing off again too
That Isaiah Thomas is an amazing fellow. First he had a brilliant career in the NBA and now at 64 he is competing with young world-class 800m men!
Sage wire to wire. Tobias had a nice close but definitely ran too tentatively to get the W.
As an outsider looking in, I notice from the results that Helen Schlachtenhaufen is unsponsored. I recalled that she doubled the 800 / 1500 at last year's US trials, so I checked her World Athletics profile.
Helen has made the final of the 1500 at the past four US trials, and in that time frame twice doubled the 800 / 1500. So her face is always on the screen at the most important US-only meet of the year, between three to five times (two 800 semis in the past four years).
There are sponsored athletes in lower sections without that resume.
Is that a good time for the 1500 from Mu? I ask because I do not have any knowledge of the 1500 and only watch it if Faith Kipyegon is running it and I know she runs somewhere in the 3:50 range, but that's her speciality.

No, this is a different Isaiah Thomas.
this is the younger Thomas of Boston Celtics fame, who just wrapped up his NBA career with Phoenix in 2024
