True, Schweizer beat Houlihan in the road mile on 4/22, but Houlihan then beat Schweizer by ~10 yards in a track mile on 4/26. I definitely favor Houlihan in this 1500.
It’s interesting that Schweizer’s first 3 races of the year are mile-mile-1500. Is she actually considering focusing on the 1500 this year (?) after her shockingly good 5th Avenue Mile last year?—or is it merely part of a 5k/10k plan.
No.
Karissa has the Tokyo WC 5000 Q from her 14:36.88 in Brussels last September. Does not have the 10,000 Q but currently ranks 10th globally (2nd US to Kelati) so likely only needs top-3 @ USAs on 7/31 to book Tokyo.
Had a winter injury -- following her first full autumn of training in four years -- so is in a heavy "catch up" training cycle. In fact, Karissa mentioned on her IG account she was originally not intending to race the Twilight but decided to for the training benefits.
Shelby, on the other hand, was planning to chase her 14:50 Tokyo 5000 Q but switched to the 1500 because lack of entrants resulted in the women's 5000 being cancelled.
Looking ahead, several of Karissa's Swoosh TC teammates are entered in Sound Running's Track Fest on 5/24 so would not be surprised to see her jump into the 1500 or 5000 (no 10,000 at this meet) as another fitness test. However, fully expect Karissa to compete @ Portland Track Festival on 6/14-15 as the meet returns to the "electric forest" @ L&C College while the pro circuit will be full on by then.
Since Shelby had to change plans at the last moment re: Oregon Twilight, she too may be a late Track Fest 5000 entrant. If not, then certainly PTC for her ongoing WC Q chase.
I hope Queen Shelby gets that Q. A Queen should have a Q!
It seems like karissa and the other girl colluded to keep shelby boxed in, but galvydyte messed it up by trying to pass, forcing karissa to speed up, forcing the girl to fall behind, and allowing the cheater shelby to pass.
Dan O'Brien should be a bit more cautious with his words. As Shelby sped by the two other runners for the win, he said "she had more juice" than the other two runners. Yikes! Read the room there Dan.

. BAD COMBINATION! And what's up with Larry Josh Edwards and Connor Burns? Two more guys who did great in high school but then got lost in Schumacher-ville.
Larry Josh Edwards has quit and is back living in West Virginia

That's an L for galvydyte.
Stop tweaking and rewatch the race. GG was well wide of the other three, she just didn't have the turnover to close it out. Some sober akeaways? Working under Schu & Shal, Galvydyte has improved strength and retains the powerful close she showed at OKSt. Shelbo is still a cagey racer with an eye for the kill inside the final 100m. Schweizer is working her way back into fitness.
This is like when Caster Semenya sandbagged it for fourth places at international competitions. Shouliman was not going all out. I am with Obrien, she has more juice than the others.
Anyone at hayward to see it? I'm curious if she had fans or haters in large numbers. (Or if any proprietors of mexican restaurants were a little upset that she chose a burrito for her alibi instead of a meatball or a schnitzel... I know I would be)

I saw the video. As with all the meets the attendance was beyond minimal. Track just isnt popular except in the Olympics

Shelby now (5/14) entered in the 1500 @ Sound Running's Track Fest on 5/24.
Thought she would race the 5000 here since she still needs her 14:50 Tokyo Q in this event.
However, didn't realize Shelby's 4:20.+ indoor mile missed the WC Mile Q of 4:19.90 so this makes sense, chasing the WC 1500 Q of 4:01.50 along with Andrews, Hurta-Klecker, Klaudia K, several others. No mention so far of pacing/wavelights; still, a sub-4 FTW still seems reasonable.
At this point, no Karissa tho most of her Swoosh TC teammates are entered, so looks like Jerry is having her focus on a long training block to catch up on missed fitness from a winter injury.
Now feel pretty safe in stating Shelby will be chasing her WC 5000 Q @ PTF on 6/14-15. Karissa will likely join in as her first serious race outdoors.
