Jane Hedengren to run 800M at BYU Invitational Meet

I say 2:05.50. So far she looks like a 1600/5000 athlete rather than an 800/1600 athlete. Her 400m PR is only 59 something but that was a couple years ago. Also, she won't be running against 2:00 girls and it's at altitude (does that make a difference at 800m or is it a wash?).

So I think 205.5 is a safe bet. I ran just slightly faster than her as a guy at 1600 at that age, was much slower in the 5000, but had 54 400 speed and I ran 2:02.5, and felt my perfect race fitness was 2:00 at the time.

If she's secretly a 54 400m runner, I could see 2:00, but I think the formula of 400m + 6 x 2 is pretty good. Lets assume she can run 55-57, that puts her right about 205.5

Let's hope that it has expired.

With her strength, if she has 54 speed, she could run 1:58 or even a little faster.

She is more like 57-2:04-4:25-14:50 shape.

I agree, which is why it wouldn't make any difference if she went out in 59 or 62 the first lap. That's why they don't use pacers or wavelights in elite 800s either.

Explanation? She ran the times. They aren't predictions. You sure are block headed. Go back to crying about that has been favorite of yours.

Everybody has a different maturation curve. THe difference between her and a lot of other phenoms is that she isn't doing what she's doing based off a huge vo2 max resulting from a 16 BMI. She appears to be fully grown, and has now had the time to grow into her body. I've seen it with male runners. They shoot up 4 inches and 30 lbs, and now they're 30 seconds slower than they used to be. Give it a year, and they get strong enough to move that new mass, and now they're 2 minutes faster.

I think this is what's happened with her. It's just happening during her senior year of HS instead of freshman/soph year of college. And she's actually old enough to be a very young college freshman.

Study after study after study has shown that out of all distances, the 800 has the greatest performance disparity gap between men and women. The 800 takes long legs and high power, something that is much different between men and women.

I agree, Mary Cain was very good. She did peak at the age of 18, and flamed out thereafter. Nonetheless, quite notably, Hedengren’s current 5000m PB is 47 seconds faster than Cain’s.

In addition, as a high schooler, per her IAAF profile, Cain never ran the 800m faster than 1:59.51. Therefore, if Hedengren actually were to break the current 800m record of 1:59.04, that would indeed put her in the conversation of all-time US High School GOAT for both mid-distance and distance.

A 14:57 runner that can run 1:59, would be capable of sub-4:20, and that’s not realistic.

And what the heck is "high power"? That's just the latest thing you made up, along with making up another version of your username.

Some of you take PRs as absolutes. Obviously, like anyone else, Hedengren can run a 2-mile at a significantly faster pace than she can manage for 5000. Based on her 14:57, she can run at least 9:25 for two miles.
