This moves him up the list of combined 100/200/400 aggregate using the Points table. Look at T&FNews tomorrow they will probably have it. He is clearly not well conditioned yet, he could probably go 45-flat
Well I hope whatever he's doing it's geared towards getting better in the 60. Tyreek's chances just got a little better after this performance imo
Tyreek couldn’t sniff 50 in a 400…so Lyles running 45.8 just mostly indicates that he’s again a better 400 prospect in theory (size, genes) than reality. Or just the work he’s put in to get better at 100 has come at the expense of the 400 in a more positive light.
1.Knighton looked absolutely awful in the 400.I know he ran the 100 leg earlier in the day, but he looked out of it after the first 150 or so.
2. I always wondered why Kerley gave up on the 400 so quickly. I didn't think he would be as good as he has been at the 100/200 overall, but feel he still could be our #1 400 runner yearly. At worst he's one of our three best and wouldn't have to compete with Lyles, Coleman, Kungfu Kenny, Knighton, and Lindsey yearly. Obviously he has held his own, but seems like the 400 would be easier and he would still have the 200.
A 4x4 with him Kerley, Benjamin, a healthy Norman, and Hall could take down the WR.
Is it time for Knighton to change his setup? He ran 19.49 in April some 3 years ago. He’s been stagnant/declining at 200 since and meanwhile his rivals have gotten better at secondary events (Kenny B, Lyles) or have taken leaps forward in the 200 (Tebogo, Kenny B). You could say the same for Joe Fahnbulleh as well.

The 400 is hard on the body. I don't blame him for leaving it.
Interesting that Coleman, Lindsey, Lyles ran a 4x1 without Bednarek (I think they used Pjai Austin instead),
but Bednarek raced with a seemingly "B" team in the same race. That would have been a good opportunity for handoff practice with a few likely 4x1 runners.
Coleman than went on to lose to Christian Miller (would be college freshman) in the 100 after. His days at the top might be numbered
My god. Anyone who says Lyles can be competitive on the world stage in the 400 is absolutely delusional. Yeah, he said he’d pick himself to be on the 4x4 oly relay, leaving off the GOLD medalist, and additionally said he can break the 400 WR. What the hell? Bro is NOT breaking 44, let alone 45.
Kerley smashes both Lyles abd Knighton at 100 and 400. Strange hes so far down on those two at 200.
Smashes them? Doesn't he have a losing record against Lyles in the 100? Lyles also has the gold medals at the event and much more impressive resume, despite having a slower PR (9.79 to 9.76). I do agree that he should have a faster 200 meter PR given he has the #8 fastest 400 meter time of all-time. 9.76 and 43.64 is a crazy range.

fwiw, tebogo ran a 45.26 this year. and we all saw what he did in the 4x4 last year. When those guys are primed to go rounds in the 200, hitting sub 19.50, they are a completely different animal.
I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Lyles could ever set the 400 record. But I'd take the money on him getting in the realm of 43.5 for a split.
But he's not better than Kerley. He's not better than any of the guys who ran last year. And quincy hall wasn't even part of that group.

2021: 4th at the Olympics
2022: World Silver
2023: World Bronze
2024: Banned for most of the season, still placed 4th at the Olympics
Why change what is working? He's only 21 and already has two global medals to his name. He's medaling and that's the only thing that matters.

You should be getting better not going backwards/stagnant at his age. Again I showed you Tebogo who has gotten way better at 200, and improved at 100 and 400 in significant ways. Bednarek who’s become better in the 100, and the 200. Lyles you know.
Erriyon doesn’t look like he has a secondary event, and in his primary event he’s falling behind Tebogo and Kenny B while not gaining on Lyles. At the very least he should be a more complete sprinter after 3 pro seasons.
