sometimes i smack the roof of the car with an open hand. wont injure my hand and makes a lot of noise.
i run right at the jabbering walkers who wont move. aiming for a space between them.
try to keep my head. since i like regular predictable routines. and if you really piss someone off you are super easy to find next time around.
but i hate people who arent polite ... usually run real early to avoid them
Same, but I would smack the trunk lid as the empty space within becomes a drum to amplify the sound. And run straight at dog walkers who don't pull their dog out of the way.
Life is more stressful than when you were competing due to income inequality, social media, etc. And there are a lot more cars now than then. I've never punched a car, but I've flicked drivers off for cutting me off or honking for no reason. That stopped when someone got out of his car and tried to fight me. I ran off lol.

Everyone loses patience sometimes. But don’t give into it. The next time the driver might jump out of the car with a can of whoopa$. If you’re a serious runner I doubt you’re prepared for hand to hand combat.
Seriously doubt the 99% of fat slobs in their car can even get out without assistance.
A lot of things were annoying me, but on the way back a car pulled out of a driveway right in front of me, practically putting me across the bonnet. So I thumped the car. I shouldn't have done it but I'm not in a good headspace. The man inside was swearing out the window as I continued the run. Proper beetroot red.

Another bug bear are dog walkers, who I can't get away from, no matter how obscure the trail path. Or women walking side by side who take up the entire width of the path and won't budge.
Never punched a car. Got bumped by a car coming out of a gas station once. Had tinted windows so I couldn't tell where the driver was looking but since I could see that traffic was going to prevent them from going anywhere I thought it was safe. They bumped me when I was more than halfway last them. I just half rolled over the trunk and didn't really break stride. They started thinking like crazy teen seconds later so I turned around and let them know I thought they were a number one driver.
One other time some kids in a truck came up behind me (I was on the sidewalk) and just laid on the horn. Scared the crap out of me and I saw them laughing. I chased them around a parking lot at threshold pace for the next 15 minutes before they got away.

I agree, I'm just explaining why someone would punch a car or why behavior like that is increasing. People feel overwhelmed and helpless and it seems like life and American society is getting worse all the time for some people. There are definitely better ways to channel those feelings and professionals who can help with them, but we'll see more stories like op's in the future I bet.

Or a gun. With the prevalence of them, especially in the US, you’re taking a risk the many mentally unhealthy people will go commando on you.
The moral of the story is car drivers are looking for a car. Never assume a car sees you. Especially if a car is pulling out of a driveway or road way. They may not recognize a person when looking for a car. Keep yourself safe. If necessary run behind the car.

Agreed. I just told my 17 year old daughter to watch for pedestrians especially when the sidewalk is set far back from the intersection. I assume no drivers are looking and usually run behind them.
The dog walkers or group of 3 people spread completely across the trail wandering aimlessly does bother me sometimes especially if I’m in the middle of a tough part of the run.
The first thing you learn in law enforcement if you are the first responder (which you almost always are) is to clear/secure the area and then perform first aid to the best of your ability. I think those guys forgot the second part. So glad you are alive, but don't beat yourself up about this. Also, going to the store to buy myself a new reflective belt asap. I have been putting it off, but this is a good reminder of what could happen if I do keep putting it off!
I have done this once and it was definitely deserved. It's not a good idea as a general matter but the incentives here are completely out of whack. A driver who hits you will probably serve zero time, while you may end up dead. And yet in the states, especially Florida, I have nearly been killed by bad drivers repeatedly on my runs. I do typically run behind them because you cannot trust them and I choose the safest routes I have available but it is a lot easier to be safe when you have easy access to bike paths or sidewalks around housing developments where you can sometimes run for miles without any cars crossing your path.
