This event is no longer separate. Let's keep it professional. It's disappointing there's no pro 5000m this time. Last year, I noticed high school races right before the pros. I'm a fan of Nico Young and saw him surrounded by high school kids while trying to warm up. He was getting approached a lot, which can be distracting. Pros definitely need their own space at mixed events like these. Even as a collegiate runner, it's important to have that focus when racing professionally.
The high school taxes help pay for the pro races. I for one would like this meet to live in, so adding events that help fund the whole thing are important.
she posted on IG. My lung (like me) is extremely stubborn. A few weeks after being back in Raleigh I got another pneumothorax. It’s a very strange feeling to go from doing a workout like this one ^ feeling the most like myself since the original surgery, to being confined to a hospital bed a few days later. The good news? This time around it didn’t collapse as much and a repeat surgery wasn’t needed. Just another procedure to help “super glue” the part that didn’t quite stick. This indoor season has been such an exciting one at every level. The bar truly is being raised in this sport, and it’s been super inspiring to watch. The frustration and sadness I originally felt at missing out on those opportunities have transformed into determination to get back onto that stage and to be a part of it. I’m so lucky and so grateful for the people in my corner through all of this craziness. To those still invested in this journey with me thank you, it’s nowhere near done yet.
Fan Out West, not sure if you noticed but Charles Hicks has pulled out of The Ten sadly, and will now be running the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler instead.
Yes, I noticed.
Hicks & Valby are the only runners I have noticed who were on the original entry lists but have since been dropped.
Brian Musu was recently added but then was removed a short time later.
This meet has a bit of history re: top runners quietly disappearing from entry lists with no explanation.
So far, fortunately, headliners Cranny, Kelati, Hailu, Bekele, Blanks, Wildschutt are all still there one week out.
Shame Hicks has scratched. UKA has loosened it's entry standards for the 5 and 10 so athletes can now qualify via ranking. This opens it up a little for Hicks, especially in the 10k

Maybe he’s planning to chase the standard at the new Kara Goucher ‘Save the 10,000’ meet instead. Surely he’s not moving to the roads permanently yet, he has a real chance to make the 10K team
Mods: another thread on The TEN was created a few weeks back; however, could not recall the Subject title nor find via browser search; if locates, suggest merging with this update thread.
_____________
A few notable additions have occurred within the past couple weeks:
- Men's field has become significantly deeper with the recent additions of Telahun Bekele, Brian Musua and Denis Kipngetich. At 12:42/5000, Bekele is the fastest 5000 runner ever entered in The TEN. Pace lights set for 27:00 Tokyo Q.
- Women's field now has pace lights set for 30:00 as well as the 30:20 Tokyo Q. Only Hailu has broken 30. Pretty shrewd hunch the 30:00 pacing lights are at Elise Cranny's request in an attempt for a new AR (current AR 30:03/Monson) and first Western Hemisphere woman under 30:00. If so, would expect Kelati and several others to tag along. If they need to back off running 15-flat/5000, still should have built enough buffer to achieve their 30:20 Q.
Bekele & Hailu coming over from Ethiopia is quite a coup for Sound Running/Jesse Williams, further cementing The TEN's status as -- in only it's 5 year -- the world's most prestigious 10,000-focused track meet.
Moving The TEN to the end of March now allows collegians to better recover from indoors and properly prepare for this meet as their outdoor season opener, as evidenced by at least 5 collegians (possibly more in the "B" races) entered in the Tokyo 10,000s.
Full afternoon and early evening of hs races (presumably made possible by sponsorship from HOKA) should be quite fast and entertaining.
High school race field lineups should be populated within a few days.

IG post below all but confirms Cranny is chasing the AR & sub-30:00.
Would not be surprised at all to see Shelby pace well beyond 5000, possibly even finishing the race to get a 10,000 debut time for herself.
With Quigley pacing the 10,000 "B" heat, wonder if Karissa Schweizer will join her BTC alumni buddies for some pacing work as well.
In any case, great to see US professional outdoor track finally return.
Totally false. I was there, you weren't. Nico Young was NOT "surrounded by high school kids while trying to warm up". This is yet another post from the same lame poster using yet another username name trying for some reason to disparage The TEN. Get a life!
Why are you so mad, bro? You're receiving actual constructive criticism.
That's not "constructive criticism". It's you again, using a different username, pretending that the lie you told in a previous post about Nico Young "being surrounded by high school kids while trying to warm up" is true when it's totally false. Stop using a bunch of different user names just to spread false information about this meet.
I love Elise gutsy attitude and if Weini isn't the first American woman to run sub 30 than hopefully it's Elise oh wait or Shelby!
Gutsy, yes.
But I hope not reckless, as she's racing the GST 5/3 double opener in Kingston the following week.
So far as I know, Elise is the only GST distance competitor racing this weekend. How she can turn around in one week from a 10,000 AR attempt, have no idea.
As well as believing Elise was done with the 10,000 for another year or two.
Her recent Flagstaff training camp with Jared/coach must be going so well that The TEN was an opportunity she just couldn't pass by.
