I look at this as a sign of a kid first time in the spotlight who has gone through family adversity recently and was immensely disappointed he couldnt close, so he was talking like he was with friends. So cut him some slack. A little less self-induced pressure and he will run even better.

But, there are enough "MF" speaking athletes to pick from today, as far as NIL $ goes and like it or not it is not a good look for a Villanova, he is a face and rep of the school its not a Power 5 hoops or football program . You can still be hard edge which he surely is, without 40 plus F bombs in 6;32. You can get your message across without it. I think he is this or that good, have for a while. He and Rocky Hansen are almost the same age to the week. He is in same grade as Martin

Some of you guys are as plastic and horrible as the token high school villains on cobra Kai/the karate kid. How many of you are prepubescent I’m curious, because you kind of have the emotional maturity of someone who is 12. If your first instinct when watching this interview is to laugh at the guy for being phony or manufactured, I just don’t see how you’re different from a middle school bully who hasn’t grown out of it

So? The rural Kenyan international student athletes aren’t living lives of luxury back home. Yet I’ve never heard them swear in interviews

Villanova is a smaller Catholic university when compared to many of the SEC/Big10, etc schools. But don't forget that their basketball program is elite, multiple NCAA championships as recently as a few years ago.
Langdon presents himself authentically aligned with his upbringing. It's not everyone's cup of tea but he goes as far as to acknowledge as much in the interview.
I don't really care how someone speaks. I've known people from many different types of backgrounds and from all over the US. Nothing a long those lines bother me personally.
I agree that it isn't a good look for the school the athlete represents though, particularly a Catholic University as I mentioned. Marco has made great progress and will most likely continue to progress. He has outdoors and two more years of eligibility remaining. I don't think he should be putting this much pressure on himself right now.
Let O'Sullivan's training continue to make you stronger and when you can break 13 minutes next year it won't come down to a sprint with 5 or 6 other guys. Hoping for the best for you and your family Marco.

Do you know what it’s like to go to an elite private university like Villanova and be surrounded by preppy kids from rich families?
Do you know what it’s like to have the pressure of trying to financially support your family at 20 years young through running, then have a camera put in your face after a disappointing race?

your best chance of finding an audience is being yourself, or even a magnified versino of yourself. at least within a range that your employer finds acceptable.
My issue arrises out of him genuinely believing what he is saying. A self manufactured chip on his shoulder if you will. You think other parents didn’t drive down to Virginia Beach and take off work??? Give me a break with the drama
Langon’s interview reminded me of Eric Holt, whose raw story-telling/self-promotion in interviews helped him to get sponsored.
My favorite part of the interview was the end when Langon 1) asked Rojo how does he not know Langon’s year in school, and 2) said he doesn’t understand why Rojo thinks it’s crazy for an American to not be getting much attention for running close to 13:10.
Those of us who are old enough to remember the dark days of American distance running in the 1990s need to realize that today’s U.S. high school and college runners have a completely different frame of reference. They are coming up in a world where an American has won 1500m gold in two out of the last three Olympics. They believe they can win too.
He comes across as whiny. And why should rojo have the exact eligibility of every 6th place finisher memorized?
DMR should have run the DMR, they would have gotten a lot more than the 3 points they got from this 5k.
Also cut him some slack for his “dramatic” interview - he just finished an all-out 5k racing for a national title. That’s an emotionally charged event and adrenaline is high, his interview after might not be the most polished
Agree on the f bombs. His mentors need to get him to soften that up a bit for his own best interests, without losing the gritty way he describes the fn racing.
Vanillanova scholarship? I never get why a scholarship, or admittance help to a good school would be kept a secret? It's the American dream! Use sports to get an education, make a career in the upper middle class, watch your kids start the next Facebook.

Two quick things:
-Great job by Langon on the track but he has GOT to clean up his act in terms of presentation. Unforgivable. Not only makes him look exceedingly bad but reflects VERY poor on Villanova.
-Forget about Kessler....you never EVER see this type of thing in an interview from ANY other runner. Can you imagine a Georgetown kid coming out a cursing like a sailor? A Stanford kid? Ridiculous.
I root for Langon...tough and talented kid. That said, he must do better. This is fixable.
