I am said coach- over at Timpview in Utah and I am an avid let’s run reader - but basically never post.
this time though - Jane is one of the hardest working, most humble kids you have ever met. She works her tail off and does all the small things. Her mentality is unreal- she is an elite level athlete in every sense of the word, as well as an elite level human being. She is NOT doping or doing anything other than putting in the work on top of an incredible genetic makeup and tough as nails mindset.
this site and the people on here willing to disparage and accuse high school kids ( girls especially making an assumption a lot of posters are men ) is really not appropriate. Not just Jane but so many people speculating about other runners through the years about eating disorders , doping and personal drama, posting as other Hs girls trying to create contention and drama where there is none. This strange fixation on athletes who are not even adults really should stop. It’s not helping the sport- it’s not helping anyone.
the only thing that should be said about the race today is hats off to both Jane and Rylee who ran incredibly well, who are obviously working hard and executed extremely well. They deserve credit and congrats . Thanks to those who came before and continue to push the boundaries at every level. Good things coming for the NCAA and American professional running.
They cannot now and never will be able to run with the Africans, certainly not 14:00, so pump the brakes a bit.
She’s a BYU commit…I’m probably going to start a fight with this but IMO the BYU squad (commits, athletes, pros) is least likely to be dirty. I said what I said.
I am not an Olympian - not even close - but I am a woman. My name is Jaimie Ribera and I was a bench warmer on the BYU women’s basketball team- about 20 years ago under Jeff Judkins - I am old now. Janeth Alder is my assistant and absolutely fantastic and came in last year when the alders moved to Provo ( she was an Olympian for Ecuador) Jane’s dad John is an amazing guy who is still an incredible athlete and does the most amazing things you have ever seen with a young club team- they LOVE him and love that program, Jane’s mom is incredibly supportive and kind human being always willing to help with our team, Mcgyver Clark who was my sprints coach last year and is running alphapeak now works with her on form/ mechanics and has for the last several years. We have a few other assistants as well - Nelson Davis and Lizzy Wilcox . 175 kids on the track team - big program lots of good people.
Jane is an amazing athlete with an amazing team behind her ( in every sense of the word ) my family was always big into track and I loved it in high school and was extremely mediocre ( if that ) I loved the sport and love coaching and have been absolutely honored to work with all those listed above and it’s been an honor to work with Jane and will continue to be a huge Jane fan when she runs for Coach Taylor next year and BYU.
it made me register to post that one sorry not sure why but I had to change the username
Agreed. I think both could be sub-15:10 in the right field.
Jane Hedengren said she is planning to run an outdoor 5k next month at Bryan Clay. I would not be surprised to see her go sub 15:10 there, maybe even as low as 15:05.
I just watched the race on Youtube. Tremendous running by those two girls. With all of the so called support of girls athletics, it would be nice to see these two get some face time on the cable news shows to promote their sport.
Do we think Astro has a KT body pillow? He is a creep so I would not put it past him. Also he just loves ignoring super shoes. If you adjust for those Jane is not much fast than KT was in HS. And then you remember that Jane has been running for longer(at altitude) than KT.
Seriously, I’m not sure which is more stupid, your post or the upvotes it garnered. This girl is WAY FASTER than Tuohy was in high school. While running in sloppy muddy conditions, where super-shoes would be of less advantage, she still blew Tuohy’s dry-land cross-country record away.
Because of all the upvotes on your idiotic post, it needs to be said:
Oh my god that is fast, it's been a while since I hopped onto LR and saw a thread where the time really shocked me, but 15:13 is insane even taking shoes and tracks into account. Wasn't the NCAA record 15:07 like 3 years ago? And Blade running 15:16 right behind her (and she took the lead with a couple laps to go and gave Hedengren a run for her money).
Hedengren was running 36s and 37s until the last 3 laps -- 35.5-34.0-33.3. I don't have an intuition for how much time she's got left on the table, but needless to say she's in shape to run faster. Even if she never does though, this is an insane performance. I mean Blade would've cut almost 10s off the record, and Hedengren blew her doors off in the last couple laps and took 12s off the record.
For the last people to hold the record: Tuohy got XC/3k/5k NCAA titles, Hutchins was 6th in the 10k last year (goes to BYU), Natalie Cook was 7th at her first NCAA XC but looks like she's struggled with injury since, and Leachman is apparently still a junior (???).
I feel like it's not gonna be too long before we see a HS girl getting to the 15:00 barrier. I don't know if it'll be Hedengren (although in the right race she might be close to 15:05 right now anyway), but that feels insane given that Valby was the first collegiate to do it just last year, and she made the Olympic team.

Exactly on the bolded part.
yes yes…But I still think the armory track might be able to shape-shift. 😆
HAH HAH HAH, some obviously devastated loser just registered the ‘wit wut’ handle!!!
I tried to tell all the doubters that Sadie taking down Claudia lane’s course record, and Blade not too far back, was some serious stuff. Did shoes help? Probably, but nonetheless.
