Sweet run by the kid. You would think most HS'ers that
are close to 9 minutes could easily go sub 1:10 but as was pointed out, the times drop off after 8/10k. Rarely is the strength there to sustain. Hopefully this kid is still running in 10 years. I recall Brad Hudson running 23 and change for 8k back in HS. ...and I thought my 26 was manly.

Didn't cut the course but I heard it was only about 12.6 miles.
Doubt very much that the course it short. Route has been unchanged for 3 or 4 years and it has been certified.
It's not the middle of the season. It's the end of the season. No dual meets left. Sectionals would be this Friday, Regionals next Friday, then State the Friday after that. He ran a half, it's not like he ran a marathon. I doubt this is the first time he's ever run a half-marathon.

Sectionals are not until a week from this Thursday and Regionals are the Thursday after that.

Well, it's a legit course, but they mess with it almost every year. I think they moved the start or ran the course in reverse this year, or something.
Some people run high on the track...2.5 miles of that would probably add to the length. Not sure where they measure it from.

The Indy Star article on Dannemiller said he's run the mini every year since he was 9 years old -- apparently the kid was born to run.
Very nice progress:
Name Time pace first 5M 10M lat 5K
Year 2006
Adrien Dannemiller 1:08:21 5:14 1:08:24 25:55 52:19 16:02
Year 2005
Adrien Dannemiller 1:13:41 5:38 27:43 56:20 17:21
Year 2004
Adrien Dannemiller 1:19:57 6:07 29:49 1:00:59 18:57
Man, I don't know what's more impressive - 1:08 as an 11, or 1:19 as a NINE YEAR OLD. That progress is amazing.
You are mistaken. He ran 1:19 in 2004 when he was 15 y.o.

Please cite the basis for those incorrect statements (\"I think\" is hardly fact). The start did not change, the course did not change nor was it run in reverse, and the finish did not change...same certified course as its been the past four years at least.
The last thing I want to see is a kid this fast this young... he won't amount to anything. The odds are entirely against him. I had a friend who was running in the 34:00 10k range as a 14-year old, who battled perpetual injuries by the time he was in college and finally quit the sport and started partying instead. An all too common refrain I'm afraid.
whadyamean? at least he's getting some pussy instead of only pounding he's doing is the road.

As far as I know, A.D.'s had only two injuries over the past couple of years; one was from playing dodgeball, the other happened on a trampoline.
Also, what are you going to do. . . Tell a kid he can't run? He's been running the mini for years -- far longer than he's been running high school c.c. and/or track.
And if you think it's all right for him to run, what are you going to do. . . .tell him not to run hard?
As far as I know, the kid's doing what he wants to be doing, and he's enjoying it. He also seems to be keeping things in moderation, i.e. not running every road race around, etc. The mini appears to be the only half-marathon he puts in each year, and he certainly doesn't seem to be active on the local road-racing circuit.

I'm sorry, pal, but that is just ignorant chitter chatter!
Was Geb/Bekele/1000s of fast Africans (delete as preferred) running slower than 34min for 10K at 14?
Purleeeeeease!
If this kid has been running Half Marathons since 9 he has probably been doing closer to "African" training than most and will probably last longer as a runner and do better - I wish him all the best!
Would be good if anyone could post his full progression from age 9 to age 17 at this race. I imagine it would be illuminating.

Not sure how it would be illuminating, but I culled these by going to the mini site at 500festival.com and going to the results:
2006 - 1:08:21
2005 – 1:13:41
2004 – 1:19:57
2003 – 1:27:45
2002 – 1:35:37
2001 – 1:42:56
2000 – 2:02:54
1999 – 1:55:30
1998 – 2:06:48
yes - he\'s a cheater. do some investigating yourself. he is not in a single picture the entire race, except for the finish. He\'s not in any picture near anyone that he finished around, at any interval. Plus - his chip time registers and unregsiters itself multiple times according to race officials. It won\'t be long before the truth comes out.

Have to love it when a washed up runner in his mid-20s who didn\'t even run the race needs to tear apart a young kid. Dorri, you always were pathetic.

Link to pictures of the race?
Link to quote from officials?
I don't know if he cheated, nor do I care -- the KID is still in HIGH SCHOOL! I do know that you are coming across as a jealous prick.
Amazing!
