Yasso 800s are nonsense in terms of predicting marathon time. Literally take the least specific workout one might do in a marathon build and extrapolate a marathon time from it? How does that make sense?
They are a joke. It's 10x800m with jog 400m recovery (or 8000m or work). I ran 8000m (8k) in 25:45, which was far from my best run.
That's 2:34.5 per 800m with no recovery. I ran 1:57.5 for 800m, so I'd say I'd have been very comfortable at 2:25 per 800m on that session.
That would predict a sub 2:30 marathon.
In reality, I did two, the best, on a flat course and even splits to within 30 seconds, was 2:47.30 and I don't think if you'd have trained me like a pro there is force in the world that would have got me under 2:40.
Yee must have been taking these very easy. He's got a recent 10k of just over 28:00 (28:07) which isn't far of 2:14 for 10k non-stop (it's about 2:15.7).
That would predict more like a 2:10 marathon.
