Yes. Right now we've got two 3:48 NCAA milers. Let's just say ten years from now there's several guys that can run 3:50 for a 1600 split. And that same team has another 3:52 type guy who in a 1200 could run 2:48. And then an 800m runner splitting 1:46.0 and a 400m split of 46.0
A 2:48.0, 46.0, 1:46.0, 3:50.0 equals 9:00. None of these are top in the NCAA right now, but all near the front. I don't think it'll happen anytime soon, but maybe ten years from now there will be a couple teams capable, and a bunch capable of 9:10ish.
Those splits equal 9:10 not 9:00
Whoops. Thought I added it up to 540 seconds, not sure which one I did wrong. In that case, 9 flat seems pretty far out there, 9:10 would be realistically impressive soonish in the NCAA, 9 flat is far away. Then you'd need a 2:45, 45, 1:45, 3:46. Within a second of NCAA record at every distance.
Completely unrealistic. You have to realize that by the 800/400/1600 legs, they would be running solo. Hell, I’m not sure many would even be able to pace the 1200 leg. Everyone having A+ , near WR days solo on a DMR leg on the same day as each other isn’t feasible.
With respect to your experience and opinion, sub-9:00 is definitely achievable. Refer to 8minpace's post. 2:45 + :45 + 1:45 + 3:45 = 9:00. The American team could run:
2:45 (Cole Hocker, paced through 800m @ 1:50, 2:45 is a foregone conclusion),
:45 (Quincy Hall, Michael Norman, Vernon Norwood, or someone else could run this leg. As fast as :43 is reasonable),
1:45 (Again, many guys could do this. Bryce Hoppel could run 1:44. Will Sumner has also soloed 1:44 before),
3:45-49 for sub-9:00 (Nuguse, Kessler? or someone else. Nathan Green closed UW's DMR @ the Husky Classic in 3:51 solo, and there are a few American milers ahead of him timewise).

3:45 solo is very difficult. That is a Jakob number. Maybe Yared can do it in prime olympic fitness. but I do think Hoppel can go 1:44 solo, for sure. Any of those 400 guys can go sub 44 on the fly. 2:45 im not sure about. 1200 is a weird distance. I think HOcker can do it, but it's not a given.
Need those 400/800 guys to give around a 3 second buffer, ideally. 43.5, 1:43.5. Definitely very possible.
