If they are cutting research grants they better cut the Tesla and SpaceX subsidies. My mother manages grants for a uni and they won’t be able to study diseases as well.
I’m aware of Trump’s deficits (about $1 Trillion per year, other than during COVID). I’m also cognizant of the fact that if Dems had been in charge when COVID emerged, deficits would have been larger.
Oh, and BTW, in addition to the Medicaid freeze? Heads-up to every veteran applying for a VA housing loan: Your application will be canceled and denied today at 5 p.m. EST. Nice work, everybody!
Trump has entered office with a difficult task - how to fix an economy that has been running $2 trillion annual deficits with no major emergencies. The current path is not sustainable (especially due to the higher interest on the debt). Actions like this are a wake up call to those who have become reliant on deficit spending. This will be turned over by the courts, but the warning shot has been fired. We need to evaluate the value of the bloated government that engorged itself under Biden.
This is rich. Trump added more to the deficit in his first term than any other president. That includes Biden.

Oh right: Over a third of Meals on Wheels funding comes through The Older Americans Act. Thank God we finally nipped food delivery for seniors in the bud!
that the memo was initially misreported and does not constitute a funding freeze on federal financial assistance across the board. The official said the pause is expressly limited to programs, projects, and activities that may be impacted by President Donald Trump's executive orders, such as ending diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), the Green New Deal, and funding nongovernmental organizations that the White House suspect undermine national interest.
The memo exempts any program that provides direct benefits to Americans from the review process. That includes Social Security, Medicare and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the official said
Hey! Stop letting facts get in the way of some good fearmongering.
We could've entered a new golden age and elected Biden or Kamala.
I think it's important to keep some things in mind so we don't forget how we got here.
Even if you like some of the legislation he enacted, Joe Biden was a preposterous president. He seemed to be barely conscious for large portions of the last four years. When it comes to taking advantage of the power of the bully pulpit, he was The Invisible Man. He let Republicans run roughshod over him. His calculous on Israel/Palestine was morally abhorrent and politically disastrous. (Who'd of thought you can't trust a far-right criminal politician like Netanyahu?)
Harris decided to combat Republican vitriol with tone-deaf smiles and dancing. What fascist threat!? We're all about JOY. In the limited time she had to organize a presidential run, she decided to prioritize paling around with Liz Cheney and running away from her most progressive stances, trying in vain to appeal to moderates instead of mobilizing the Dem base.
These people weren't ushering in any "Golden age." They are empty vessels who care about the status quo above all else. They're corrupt losers, not fighters. If Dems want to have any hope of turning the tide against Maga-extremism, they need to move on from the politicians of old. (Emphasis on "old"!)

Oh, well that certainly explains why the Medicaid portal for states suddenly stopped working today. Thanks for clearing that up!

Because of bloated covid funding...
If you don't count any of the money Trump spent on Covid ($4.8 Trillion on non covid, 3.6 Trillion on covid), and include ALL of the money Biden spent including his covid spending ($4.3 Trillion TOTAL), Trump still spent $500 BILLION more. And for what? He inherited a great economy from Obama, and he didn't get the historic infrastructure bill passed like he promised he would even with huge majorities in congress (Biden got the largest one in US history passed with a 50/50 senate).
The national debt is on course to reach a record share of the economy under the next presidential administration, due in part to policies approved by Presidents Trump and Biden during their ti

I judge my politicians based on their actions and their results. Biden got stuff done. If that's because he was senile and the people around him were getting things done, then I'm totally fine with that, and I would happily vote for it again, because he chose the right people, and he got results. They could have wheeled him out to the debate in a gurney and I'd have voted for him over Trump.
I don't fault Harris for her campaign. In hindsight it's easy to point out missteps, but she had like 100 days to put together and run a campaign. I want democrats to go harder on the messaging, and I'm doing that in my own life as well. But I'm not gonna back down on Biden being the best president of my lifetime based on his results.
I don't really care about infrastructure. I care about fighting the scourges of wokeism, larger tax cuts for me, and ending affirmative action.
Affirmative action ended under Biden.
You cry about wokeism, but you guys don't even know what a woman is. Trump's Executive Order literally made everyone either a woman, or neither male nor female.
Glad you guys are finally admitting you don't want to make the country better by investing in it, and you're done with the 'fiscal responsibility' logic that democrats always beat you in anyway. Now it's just 'lower my taxes wah wah wah'.

Oh, and following up: Does it also exempt any program in which it is Congress, not the President, that appropriates money? Because that's [checks notes] all of them. Or did we just elect a king?

It's "fiscally responsible" to send $60 billion to Ukraine? To have 12 million illegals and pay for all of their welfare and programs?
