I have never nitpicked or dodged the question. Yes, undoubtedly when there are more turns you tend to slow down due to changing direction. But, we do not know the effect of various other factors which I have listed before. We also do not know the relationship between those other factors and the size of an indoor track, and how much faster or slower you can run outdoors. I have said this already, hence why I called your question a red herring. Because of this, you need to provide evidence for your absolute claim that dempsey is undoubtedly slower than outdoors.
You’ve done both, but here, since you require “proof” for something that should be eminently obvious, I did ONE google search and got this.
The NCAA implemented conversion factors for oversized tracks to outdoor tracks in 2012-2013. These factors can be used to convert track and field times from oversized tracks to outdoor tracks. Conversion factors 200m: 0.9824 for men, 0.9847 for women 300m: 0.9835 for men, 0.9860 for women 400m: 0.9843 for men, 0.9869 for women 500m: 0.9848 for men, 0.9874 for women 600m: 0.9852 for men, 0.9879 for women 800m: 0.9859 for men, 0.9886 for women 1000m: 0.9864 for men, 0.9892 for women 1500m: 0.9872 for men, 0.9901 for women Mile: 0.9874 for men, 0.9902 for women 3000m: 0.9885 for men, 0.9915 for women
Debate over, don’t respond again
This proved nothing and once again you are disregarding the other factors I mentioned. This is if all factors were the same and we only looked at 200 vs 400m tracks. Of course you run slower, but now, we have to bring in other factors as well as that may change the finishing time. Outdoors is almost never perfect as indoor conditions. So undoubtedly, there is still an unknown in how much slower, if it even is, indoor tracks are nowadays. The debate is certainly not over. In fact, one never even began because you still have yet to show evidence that quantifies how much slower an indoor track is, considering all those factors.
Thank you for being the one poster left on this thread who isn't talking about indoor vs. outdoor...
And thanks for answering my questions!
It would be so awesome to see Bannister, Ryun, Walker, etc. running in the modern era. Fascinating to think about what a 3:50 miler from back then could do (Walker) today. Stuff like that...
It appears to me that Dempsey has a fresh surface for this season. They added a curb as well. Dempsey is historically a fast distance track as we all know. If you've been there during a meet, you can feel the floor bounce as a pack of runners go by. (Perhaps a springboard effect?). As I understand, the facility is built on piers due to it being so close to Lake Washington and on reclaimed/filled land. Is it Boston? Probably not, but plenty fast. The two 1:46 800s were no joke on Friday as well.

Indeed, my good man! Jason dropped a 13:55 in TRAINERS there back in the day!

We don’t exist only to please you. You do get this?
Yeah, I get that. But sometimes two posters enter the back-and-forth mode and derail a thread. It is like when Armstronglivs and King of Physics enter a thread and ruin it.
It is nice when posters actually stay on the topic of the thread... Which brings us back to Nathan Green. I had no idea he got 3rd in the Big 10 XC. That is solid for a miler!
Here is the UW webpage about him for people who don't follow college track that closely:

That is absolutely correct: Dempsey had a brand new Mondo surface put on the track, and a curb. Apparently, the NCAA is mandating that all of the grandfathered oversized tracks must put a curb in (I'm assuming it's to comply with World Athletics rules on standard 400m tracks requiring curbs for record purposes).

But the topic is the race and the race includes the venue. You are correct that some posters derail a thread but the topic is larger than Nathan Green, as it includes this fast indoor track. I can tell by the results that this track is really fast. It is OK to say that without taking away from Green’s performance. Anyway the truth abides.
*Indoor 300+ tracks are as fast if not faster than outdoor tracks. Thus the IAAF counts them as an "outdoor" performance on the IAAF lists and in athlete's profiles.
*Historically people running mega fast times early in a year aren't much of a factor in championship-type races later. The college system produces a lot of these kinds of runners due to it's "eggs against a wall" training to chase qualifying times.

Lol you're welcome I got tired of indoor v outdoor years ago, you pose way more interesting stuff to talk about.

I was talking with someone (Thoughtsleader?) saying I was expecting big things from Strand and Sahlman this year because of their jumps in XC, and he pointed out Green as someone to look out for too (who did much better in XC than Sahlman). I don't think this 3:50 is quite as big a surprise given he's coming in with a 3:32 pb, but this shows he's gonna be ready to roll this year, which is super exciting. Sahlman is running 400m pbs, Strand is running 7:30, Green is running 3:50, and it's only January.
Don't know if it's been posted yet but here's the race.
UW has gotten it done with homegrown talent, but man do they get a lot of transfers running for them.
That Ronan McMahon-Scraggs kid (UCLA transfer) was a 4:19 1600m/9:18 3200m runner in HS and just ran 3:51 for the full mile in January - that has to be one of the more significant improvement curves in middle-distance ever for a collegiate athlete.
Guys like Green, Strand with his 3k, etc. showing what XC/10k strength does for you on the track....the shorter stuff is still about endurance still, so you win if you have speed + don't get tired (not if you just have speed).
Can't wait to see the Villanova guy hit the track, too.
1) What would you be thinking and what would you do if you were Lex and Leo?
Make a Youtube video, rake in some dough, and move on. Were there Mile/3k doubles 'meh'? Yeah, but it's mid-January and their brother is Nico Young; I suspect they will be fine, but much like Waskom, they cannot afford to sit back and assume it will all work out hunkydory. Get on the horse

Silver medalist in steeple, not 1500
Steeple is a DEI event for people not talented enough for 1500 or 5000
