The media intentionally asks Kerr and Jakob questions about each other because the media knows their responses will generate good headlines and clicks. Kerr didn't bring up Jakob, unprompted. Citius specifically asked Kerr what he thought about Jakob not signing up as a racer for Grand Slam Track.
It's also worth noting that Citius is an official partner of GST, and Kerr was one of the first GST signings. I think Kerr's comment about Jakob's racing abilities doubled as a dig against the Diamond League's usage of pacers. Kerr wasn't just talking trash about Jakob; he was trying to promote GST as the place for true racing in contrast to the Diamond League, which often features Jakob as one of its star athletes.
