Whatever. Still more impressive than Arop's 1:11...By far.
So you admit that you simply lie. "Whatever." 😆
And actually no, it is not more impressive at all.
We're not talking about which is a better-ranked performance.
We're talking about which is more "impressive" -- and a 1:41.2 800 man also running a 1:11 is much more interesting, rare and impressive than an elite miler running a 27:xx 10k.
Hocker, Ingebrigtsen, etc all have sub-13 5000 times. You don't think they can run 27:34? FFS Nordas has run 27:31 ON THE ROAD. And he has the same 1500 time as Webb.
It's just not exceptional for an elite miler.
Show me ONE OTHER 1:41 man with a 1:11 half, or you lose.

Ovett ran low 1:44 and a 65 minute half marathon he apparently had not planned to run and jumped in at the last minute (I think he won).
This is an incredibly impressive result for a guy who has run 46.10. You will almost never see that combo: 46.10 and 1:11:16.
Steve Ovett ran a 21.7 200m and 1:05 half-marathon, nearly half-a-century ago. The world record at the time was 1:02, so just 3 minutes off it. Arop was 14 minutes off the WR.
I have shown you Nordas, a 3:30 man like Webb with a better 10k than Webb.
Show me one single sub-1:44 man with an 1:11 half, or you lose.
You're joking, right? Webb IS a sub-1:44 man, and he went 27:34. The dude could have gone well under 1:11 on a tempo run. That's like 5:25 mile pace!
Steve Cram 1:42.88 and 65:33.
I would say it’s borderline “common sense” that a lot of elite sub-1:44 guys COULD run 1:11 or faster if they bothered, but they don’t. It’s less impressive for a 145 pound 1:43/3:29 guy than a 6’4”/170 46.1-open guy like Arop, though.

It is an interesting phenomenon that when one praises a performance as being impressive it often evokes responses which attempt to say “not as impressive as X,” or “well it was way off the world record,” as if those who praise the performance are not cognizant of all of these facts which trigger the disparagements, and still have deemed the aforementioned performance to be impressive.

I don’t recall you talking about how Jakob was almost 8 minutes off the world record in the half marathon, and of course it doesn’t matter much in the scheme of things. Arop ran an impressive half marathon, not in terms of it being world class, far from it, but possibly the fastest all time for a man who has run a 46.10 open 400m. Although again, maybe someone else has run faster at both. We already know Arop is one of the most impressive 800m men who has ever lived, so he is already an aberration among aberrations.

It's Coevett you are replying to. He feels threatened by a great performance by a black man. He has to show that white men are superior.

My bad. Almost 6 minutes off the world record for Jakob.

It's very impressive, but why would you think, just because he's 6'4" and 170lbs, it's more impressive than Webb's times at the 800 and 10000? 1:11 is 5:25 pace. 27:34 is 4:27 pace.

This must detract some from his ability to enjoy the sport. I have noticed that various people can potentially win the races, and their skin color seems rather immaterial.

Nobody but you is trying to compare 27:34 to 1:11. And it makes no sense to do so. Arop has run 46.10. He is not a distance runner. He is more of a long sprinter/middle distance guy, even more so than Webb.

Yikes, buddy. You have a pretty weird fetish here -- though I give you credit for not capitalizing the "b" like I see in the Washington Post and NY Times. Ha ha.

Didn't say it wasn't an impressive performance, just was wondering why other names like Webb were getting mentioned and not Ovett. Also, when Jakob did run that impressive half-marathon, I posted about Ovett and got similarly lambasted by Jakob fans (most of whom didn't give a fig about Jakob when I and others were championing him 8 years ago).
Also, I was a big fan of Arop and glad he was beating the Kenyans, but if you look at his next level jump this year, it is kind of suspicous, especially when he revealed that he and his coach had sat down and come up with 'Project 100'.

Fair points but…did you think 7:17 was at all suspicious? It was really super impressive to say the least.

Arop himself said that he hopped on Maurten biocarb this year. That probably had an impact.

Unless I missed it, how far apart were Webb’s 800 and 10km done?
Props for the effort, and I think it's cool that Arop did this, but nothing about the time is particularly impressive. My half PR is virtually identical, and I'd expect any world-class 800 runner to be at least as fast as me, even if he's more speed based. Doesn't really tell me anything about what he might be able to do for 1500.
This isn't meant to be negative at all, I wish more pros did stuff like this.
