You also notice this if they have ever run USATF or AAU, which are based on age that they turn that calendar year. It keeps things honest.

He has a late summer bday, when he was barely 5 he was not at all emotionally ready for full day kindergarten. We held him back and he started kindergarten right after he turned six. He also goes to a private school, but did not in elementary or middle school. Most of the kids, he goes to school with are in the same age range as him, and were at his public school as well. He has never been the oldest. Maybe oldest 50%. My other son has a sping bday (May) and happens to be one of the youngest in his grade, even though he should be average. I think a lot of times with boys especially parents hold their children back if they are not emotionally or mentally ready.ten class. This is absolutely understandable and I agree with this. Every kid is different and sometimes it's necessary to delay the start of kindergarten by a year. That's why I think that as long as the child isn't 19 in high school, it doesn't matter how old they are.

This is likely what happened with Sadie, Tayvon, Eyan Turk, etc. as they are all August 2006 birthdays but are class of 2025. It's likely the same case for these Jesuit boys too (if their birthdays are verified). They were likely held back because they would've otherwise been among the youngest in the preceding class.

Is he good at sports? Then he's an "age cheat". If he's not then no one cares.

Someone born in 2008 is 17, 2007 is 18 this calendar year. These guys are more than a year older than the bulk of their competition. For reference, I have a Junior born in June 2009, he will be 16 until June. He will be 17 when he graduates and most will be 18. That's normal. With so many people trying to "gain an advantage in school and sports" by holding kids back, the schools need to do the right thing to maintain fairness and set age limits with sports. It is even more important in contact sports where kids can get hurt playing against legal adults. When it comes to sports, classify them per the standard school cutoffs. If they exceed limits their junior or senior year, do what they do with academics when they exceed the capability of the HS, have them compete for the local community college or JC.
