How about they are consistently hostile to American interests? Would that be a good reason for them to be our enemy? I think adversary is a better term than enemy, but the point remains. They kidnap our people. They threaten and kill our allies. They tell their people that "the west" is evil. They threaten and kill their own people! Remember Chechnya? Why can't we be honest? Putin wants to expand Russia by invading it's nearest neighbor. Why did he have to invade, instead try to form a peaceful partnership? Because what he's selling stinks. What a joke. The USSR was formed diplomatically. And the USSR stopped existing because it failed. There are legal means to create multi-state entities. See the European Union. See NATO. See the United Nations. If Russia wants to recreate the Soviet Union, they are free to do so by convincing their neighbors to join them without invading them. But they can't because what they currently offer is crap.
