Sam Ruthe age 15 just jogged a 3.49 in his heat at NZSS. Kiwis > Aussies
Instead of comparing results of junior athletes we should probably just respect their performances and support them as they navigate through to the senior ranks.
It is almost impossible to compare the talent of kids that are 15/16, because it is irrespective of body type and their bodily development. Furthermore, talent levels do not directly correlate with the ability to handle the required stimulus to get to the next level of their careers. Being talented is one thing but being able to handle a consistent training program is arguably a better indicator of future performances.

We are not soft Aussies over here trying to figure what gender we want to be. We are champion-blooded sons-of-gods New Zealenders. KA MATE KA MATE KA ORA KA ORA KA RATE KA RATE JUDO CHOP HIII YAH
I like the training. What is the pace of the ons and offs workouts? Is it Aussie Quarters style?
We would be on the track but they are closed so yes similar but less intensive (because of hills after). We do 8x400 w/200 float occasionally. The last time he did it was early August and he ran 14:37 for 4800m.
I have done 200on/off for 10k back in my college days a bunch if times. 200s between mile/3k pace date pace and keeping the floats at 50-55sec. By the end it definitely felt hard but recovered very quickly compared to other types of workouts. And it was kind of fun. I have done it with high school athletes but only for 5k asking them to hit 3k pace and keep the floats at 60sec.

His floats tend to be 40-45's 200's with 400's at 67-69. 3k pace would be too intensive for this session. It varies for each athlete. To be honest he hasn't done many 400's at 65-66 but his aerobic fitness allowed him to run 8:11 which is 65.5 pace. Tallahassee will be a great learning experience for him.
Great time. How did World XC go for him? Hard the judge his time considering the obstacles on the course, etc. From the training posted it doesn’t seem that you did anything different to prepare for the obstacles? Such as hurdling over barriers during workouts etc.
he was actually a little unwell at worlds but placed 36th. It was only his 2nd 8k and his training leading up to the event was good. His first 3k in November was 8:19 so we are pleased with this result. Looking forward to what he can do for 1500m soon.
