Edit: Oh, no joke, he’s not vaccinated. Got COVID at 72 and over 300lbs and was barely sick. I encouraged him to get the vax, but he is a stubborn man. Great human being, but very stubborn.

This. Vaxxers, pay attention.
Are you telling me that everyone who got covid didn’t die? This is a MASSIVE CONSPIRACY?!!

Would you take ozempic knowing there is this correlation, knowing that they haven't tested ozempic at all yet? Would you recommend ozempic to your wife, or your daughter, or your son, before this research can be done to evaluate the long term effects of it?
HELL NO YOU WOULDN'T. Diet and exercise. That's all it takes.
I would take it for sure. Except I don’t need it. So I am not going to take it.
It says lab results. Not in animals (of which the data is in mice)
Nothing to see here at this time.
In fact, maybe this would be good for cardiac hypertrophy?
A side effect of unknown risk that may not even be caused by the drug vs. many huge trials showing excellent weight loss, CVD improvement, diabetes management, etc.
ITT: people shocked that losing 15% of your body mass may affect your body
Did you even read the article? It says they cannot be sure what the cause is. You and RFK are not scientists. So please listen to those of us who are.
I work in pharma and most “scientists” are common sense idiots who are so specialized they don’t understand how power influences their work and adds massive bias. Most scientists I met are idiots. Think about it- all the companies that are fake like Theranos and the hundreds of companies that go bankrupt but suck in millions- they all have “scientists” if these scientists so smart why arnt they in power? I mean hell scientists also discovered and created “global warming” which is the bigger inflated topic of human history by those in power to control the common man. now don’t get me wrong- I somewhat believe in “science” but not exactly it’s “progress” the atomic bomb and lasers and rockets isn’t progress, we still are terrible humans to each other- fixing that is more important than anything science thinks it engineers.
science is like a cult now, it’s for peoples egos or peoples greed for power and money. If you could see these C suite executives scheme up how to steal more public and private money (not just in the name of science) but literally using science and how it murks up the mind, you’d change your mind

“So please listen to those of us who are” what a ffffing moron this line. See that’s the ego and identity of scientists to think they are special- anyone is a scientist- you just use the scientific method.
if anything that’s the point- it’s the method. There are no “scientists” what is that? No. There IS ONLY the SCIENTIFIC METHOD.

Ok but what are your thoughts on GLP1Ra’s? They certainly seem to be a triumph of modern pharmaceutical science.
Geez, reading these threads makes me realize how low science literacy is in the general public.
Semaglutide has been out for a while and has been studied in relatively long term trials. There is a modest reduction in coronary artery disease (), heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (), and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (). We have data going four years showing .
Ozempic does cause sarcopenia, and diligent exercise is important. It's not without drawbacks. But being really fat is really bad for you. As other posters have said, I would urge caution using it to shed those last few pounds (as most people in trials were quite obese), but if you're morbidly obese, get on it.
Finally, a big heart outside of endurance athletes is usually due to compensation for high blood pressure or other things which increase afterload. It's eventually a negative.
So: Ozempics "is not without its drawbacks..."Being fat is really bad for you..." and "...if youre morbidly obese, get on it [Ozempic]" These are Some of your scientific pronouncements?! But I guess Im just going to have to adjust tio the new norm in Scientific literature.
At least check the spelling of your nickname Dr. Science.!
I'm fairly sure I made this account around 20 years ago in my teens - I'm not sure why I chose this name and yes, I was apparently unable to spell Baba Ghanoush at age 15.
I'm unclear as to why you decided to ignore the four trials quoted in my post and instead focus on my glib summary statement as some "gotcha".
I'll also note that my original post reads somewhat garbled. I tried to use the forum's hyperlink function to change the links to explanatory text, but for whatever reason it deleted my text and posted the links at the bottom.
At the end of the day, we have almost five years of trial data showing modest to major improvements in significant metrics (mortality, coronary artery disease, heart failure). How much data should a pharmaceutical product have before it can be consumed by the public?

There’s a lot of fit people who need to feel superior for being fit. So, I guess, don’t come after that?
You’ve seen the same thing with vaccines. The COVID vaccines had extremely high quality data on their safety it was never enough for the naysayers. People literally will demand the proving of a negative
Get back to me when folks start having mesothelioma-like effects from the synthetic fibers in all of the masks they were wearing in 2020-2021, and that some are still wearing now.
Lucky if Ozempic's long-term side effects are limited to possible cardiac shrinking. Can be much worse than that.
From where I sit, one obviously-worse effect is if millions of people choose mates based on attractiveness, when those people have no control over themselves and their bodies, but are instead relying on prescription medication to curb their otherwise-gluttonous behavior. If natural selection is real that is a clear defeat for mankind.

If I was very obese and headed toward an early death and nothing else had worked then absolutely. GLP1 drugs are proven to reduce death from CVD. Unsurprising that they cause muscle loss too. I’m glad people are studying the side effects but the trial data shows they are obviously healthier than being obese.
I was obese and stopped eating so much food and started working out. Ran a bunch of 15-minute 5ks, and some ultramarathons that I was happy with. Never make it to sub-elite status. Never dedicated my life to running, but I also don't touch fast food or pharmaceutical products.
It wasn't easy. But what's good about easy? Isn't the whole point of worthwhile pursuits that they aren't easy? If they were then everyone would do them. Heck, why not dope everyone to the gills then? EPO is like the Ozempic of elite athletes. "If I was slightly slow and headed towards and early retirement and nothing else had worked then absolutely." How does cheating somehow become okay in the race of life when it is not at the world championships?
And then there's the fact that I'm paying nearly $400 per month to an insurance company and consuming 0 while some fatties are singing up for Ozempic and the insurance company is being billed around $900 per dose. What a con.

First, all of the data collected by the company selling the drug should be thrown out.
Then the people buying the drug should shoulder all of the risk and cost for consuming the drug. As it stands, I shoulder the cost for other people consuming the drug, for better or worse. Perverse incentives make for perverse outcomes. If they aren't expressed as cardiac arrest statistics they'll be expressed in other ways.
Finally, you don't know the meaning of the word "we." We implies you and others for whom you have been given permission to speak, not drug manufacturers and the folks who they pay to run their studies. Stop speaking for people other than yourself when you have no permission to do so.
"...they cannot be certain semaglutide is causing the atrophy of cardiac muscles, or even if this loss of muscle is a bad thing. In some cases, it could possibly confer benefits.
You run to post an article that doesn't say what you say it says "Ozempic is causing heart shrinkage." No where does it say that, in fact it states that they have no idea if it's doing that and secondly, if it is, they don't know if it isn't a good thing. Lots of obese people have enlarged hearts and if the drug proved to treat that as well it would truly be a good thing.
You are an idiot and so is RFK brain worm.
So you're saying they have no idea if the drug is doing something or not. That gives us a lot more confidence....
