Not really. It was so close Ishowspeed thought he tied. He got a better start than Lyles, maybe even led for 30m.

I’ve been saying for years that Speed could’ve gotten a D1 scholarship in the 400/800m, very athletic. Super rich streamer now, but he’s definitely one of those athletic kids at your hs you always wanted to see join the track team but never did.

I mentioned this race to my 10 year old son. I couldn’t believe it when he said he knew about Ishowspeed.

I mean, it's a 50m race, so it's gonna be somewhat close no matter what. But Lyles took maybe 20m of that race seriously and easily won. Basically Lyles put in a burst of speed for a handful of steps to make sure he was ahead and then high stepped his way to easily winning this joke of a race.
Agreed... but also even if Lyles is making several million dollars a year, $100k is still a lot of money to make and well worth it for just showing up to some track and half-heartedly racing a 5 second race lol.

Maybe sprint coaches can chime in. Does the fact Speed started almost upright contribute to why he looked good early?

I know I'm late to this party but I just heard about this on a podcast. This "race" wasn't close at all. 1) Noah didn't try. 2) He looks over & starts taunting ~20m in. 3) Then he high steps/takes some weird big long steps towards the end. It's a joke.
The issue is that 50m is hardly any time to separate yourself. It's almost a lose-lose. The internet is freaking out saying it's close but, of course, it's relatively close -- it's 50m of running. Kind of a disservice to T&F to talk about it like that. We have to balance being the sport that anybody can do, while recognizing the level of the top guys. This YouTuber has influence/followers. His fans don't think Noah is impressive now.
