what's really interesting to think about is if Kelvin Kiptum had been part of the original Breaking2 marketing event, he would have actually accomplished it in the original vaporfly, and then we might never have the alphafly because there would be no need for it to be developed
Ruth clearly couldn't have done this in just the vaporfly
Chicago was basically the women's Breaking2 event, not quite the same levels of draft but good enough
we estimate that for a solo runner (52 kg) at 2-h marathon pace, overcoming aerodynamic drag force (1.39% BW) comprises 7.8% of their gross metabolic power and drafting can save between 3min 42s and 5min 29s
To run a 2:09 you would have to be 13:30 5000M runner or a 28:15 or so 10000M runner...i dont recall any woman running these times.
What you mean to say is:
"Based on my knowledge of mediocre male runners, and their speed-to-endurance ratios, running 2:09 is usually accompanied by 13:30 / 28:15. I know nothing about the speed-to-endurance ration of elite female athletes in modern shoes."
You post is just so...bad. For starters, a 13:30 5k runner who is truly a marathon specialist will likely run 28:00 not 28:15.
You are basing your projection on mediocre, undertrained Americans, not the world's best marathon specialists, properly trained for the race.

Do you not realize you just further proved `broken arrow`'s point? Or are you so up your own a$$ you can't see that?
Haven't read through the whole thread but the initial post & comment about shoes seems not it. Super shoes have been out since 2017. Some lab testing shows that the OG AlphaFly's test better than the 2s & 3s for certain runners. Curious as to why women would see more of a benefit. But we're still talking about someone who is 30 years old & was a 1:04/2:14 performer across plenty of races in super shoes. They had established a range of times they fell within. This is still a big improvement.
You are superior by your TONGUES and your medias but in the reality poor and exploitable individual and societies.
So, the real question is not "how possible African athletes run so fast without doping", but "why we are no more able to repeat the same level of performances of 40-30 years ago", and the solution of the problem is to look at our training and at a right methodology (with right motivation) instead to think the other performances are exceptional, while are normal only if we know the past.
While the mens world records line up well in equivalent performances from 5000m to marathon I don't see the same happening with the women. Not yet at least. There is a lot more history with men and more depth.
Currently the Women's half-marathon and esp. marathon world records are substantially better than the current women's world records in the 5000m and 10000m.
It may take a year or two but I fully expect to see a women run sub 13:50 in 5000m and about 28:40's. From there I expect even faster down to 13:40 and 28:30's. Just a matter of time. I am a strong believer in the math behind predicting times.

The math will fail you at some level. The women will tend to do better in the longer events relative to the shorter events. Plus the shoes may be aiding the longer road events more than what you are seeing on the track. You may see 28:45 in the next 3 years. You will not see 13:49 in the next 3 years.
Canova has a life-long experience with coaching and an inside experience with life in Kenya. It is his critics here who have no credibility, nor any reputational stock to pay any price for the things they say.

drugs are not progress
drugs are not evolution
if you get the protocol right and don't get kicked out and you are a decent athlete, and are a HYPER responder
that is where world records come from
sure there is "evolution" of drugs and protocols
but the main factor is if you can take them and not get kicked out

Funny that my post was removed for "lacking content". What would one call THIS post!?
My posts have directly addressed Canova's "life-long experience with coaching" and "inside experience with life in Kenya", just not as the hagiography that his sycophants at LRC would prefer. And judging by the upvotes, I'm not exactly an outlier in my views on this guy.
But of course you're the extremely tendentious "there's no evidence that doping works" guy, so your defense of Canova is precisely on-brand.

Neither rekrunner nor Canova has stated “there’s no evidence that doping works”. On the contrary -I have read posts where both clearly have stressed a believe in for instance steroids as performance boosters…
When it comes to EPO neither of the two has claimed categorically that it doesn’t work. But they have in an interesting way stressed some nuances, for instance that Russia didn’t seem to get a performance advantage out of it’s modern doping regime, and that one could speculate around the effect or lack of effect of EPO doping for the very top elite, that already has had the advantage of professional (f.x altitude) training…
